My Dad bought my Mum a toaster for Christmas in 1971, we only stoped using it last year when we smelled a burning smell.  My Dad died in 2003 and the toaster sort of reminds me of him and my childhood, so I can't throw it away even though it broke.

Is that silly?

Not if it means something to you.

How times change! I can imagine the reaction if my husband bought me a toaster for Christmas! My uncle once bought his wife an ironing board for Christmas and was very dispondant when she was less than thrilled!

My friends husband bought her a pan set one Christmas. She started to cry and he went on to explain it wasn't just any old pan set, it was a 8 piece one complete with a wok. Like that makes it better.

Well the wok would've worked for me...

My dad bought my mum a breadbin once and has never been allowed to forget it. Now my sister and I choose his Christmas presents for her!

A breadbin!  How on earth do some men get it so wrong?

I get through a lot of irons. After about a year, they go up in smoke! I think it's because I iron left-handed so the wires get muddled and twsited whilst you iron.

Maybe you need a cordless one.

My mum had some hand beaters which lasted for about 20 years! The receipt was still in the box.
