20 cigarettes went up 9p in the budget. That makes 20 Regal £5.14 a packet.

I agree the price hike was not enough to deter smoking.  It should have been 50p a packet.  However, obesity is also a big problem so SchmcDonalds etc should have been penalised too.

My nan, who smokes 20 fags a day, hates fireworks because the bangs makes her think the war is back on. Last year she spent ages on the phone telling me what a waste of money they were, so I said 'yes, isn't it stupid to spend a fortune on something you set fire to?' She agreed without a hint of irony...

20 cigs a day would cost £1,889.00 over a year. Think of all you could buy with that. Could put it towards a new lung.
