I remember when I was about 12 that girls were fighting to be allowed to wear trousers in winter. If you tried to sneak in wearing cullottes you were in big trouble...

Legally, I do not think a school can insist on skirts for girls.

Probably not now, but back in 1992 (when my female classmates had to fight to wear trousers) it definitely was.

I couldn't wear them to Secondary School as it had to be a kilt but I could get away with it at Primary School.

A local school to me was in the news recently as it actually banned girls from wearing skirts! Some parents took it further and the ban was removed.

We couldn't wear trousers for school but I see around here all the girls wear trousers now.
