I say make them do manual labour to repay their crimes - which both humiliates them and gives back to the community.

Whether you're right or not, this simply won't happen. Putting people in the stocks? The suggestion would be laughed out of parliament. Any MP coming up with such an idea would end up as a comedy item on local news.

Perhaps - and the fact that it wont happen shows how little seriousness our politicians attach to this problem as they sit in their leafy cottages.
