Made in Dagenham
« on: October 03, 2010, 08:25:45 am »
Saw this last night and it was a brilliant film. It's about how a group of women machinists at the Dagenham Ford Motor factory fought for equal pay with men doing similar semi-skilled jobs. The campaign resulted in the Equal Pay Act which this year celebrates its 40th year.

It was funny but spirited and well worth the effort of trekking off the the cinema.

My husband asked for 'two tickets please'. The teenager on the till said 'two senior citizens?' and immediately my husband said 'yep'. Without a word we received two pensioners' tickets! I am only 53! However - I was standing behind my husband when he bought the tickets so the boy couldn't see me!

ah, yes - i thought this looked pretty good. not the sort of thing i'd venture out to see but i'll definitely get the dvd.

i don't think there's much hope me getting in as a senior citizen though... believe it or not, this husky 30-something yeti was actually refused alcohol the other day until i could produce my driving license. (and i've been buying booze and getting into 18 rated movies since i was 14 with no trouble at all!) unbelievable!
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

I used to get half fares on the buses in London until I was 22!  As you can imagine - I was less than pleased to be mistaken for a 60 something. It's the second time this year as well because a bus driver asked me if I had an OAP p[ass back in the summer! It has been a tough year though so I suppose things have taken their toll. I'll have to upload a photo and you can decide for yourselves!

I was booking some theatre tickets at a box office the other day and the obligatory old crone volunteer said without glancing at me, "Concession I presume?".  I didn't reply so she then looked up at me and apologised, to my relief.  I was somewhat surprised as I often get told my voice sounds very young and people still occasionally ask if my parents are in when I answer the phone!  Oldspice I'm sure you look absolutely fine.  The trouble is not that you look old, it's just that so many genuine seniors have had loads of 'work' done and look ridiculously young!
