KitKat Caramel
« on: July 26, 2009, 04:12:05 pm »
I picked up some of these in Cornwall and forgot I had them until I unpacked my beach bag today.

I was expecting a chocolate covered wafer with a chewy caramel filling. No chance! The filling is just a caramel flavoured nothingness. You can't even call it a caramel cream filling because there is no cream as such. The flavour is overpowering, very sweet and very artificial tasting.

A big disappointment but am I surprised? Serves me right!

Yeah I was disappointed with these too, if anything it tasted like burnt caramel to me :(
What's really worrying is that a chunky version is coming in August - lets hope it tastes a lot better.

Is it a bit like Tunnock's Caramel?

No! It's NOTHING like delicious Tunnock's Caramel!

KitKat Caramel is wafer covered in milk chocolate with an overpowering caramel taste that seems to come from the wafer but not from any cream or caramel filling between the wafer. The wafer itself tastes of brunt caramel. It's horrible!

God knows what the Chunky version will taste like!

Tunnock's Caramel Wafers are one of those few items of confectionery that have remained unchanged for years and years - they're delicious, I haven't had one for a few months and now I want one!

Don't Tunnocks do one in a blue wrapper?

Yep, that's the plain chocolate variety. I adore Tunnocks Caramel Wafers and their Teacakes. They are wonderful.

I've never had a dark chocolate Tunnock's Caramel.  Are they nice?

Oh, so no-one's had one of those then...

Anyway, I had a Kit Kat Caramel and I found it disappointing.  It tasted like a normal Kit Kat with a very weak caramel flavouring.

sorry missed the bit about tunnock's dark caramel, yep they're great. Shame they're currently scoring lower than the regular caramel; http://www.chocolatereview.co.uk/individual.asp?ID=259
