Bournville
« on: October 28, 2008, 02:08:05 pm »
How things have changed, huh?  When I were but a wee nipper in the 70's, I used to love Bournville chocolate.  Those massive family bars would last me forever and started my path on a love of all things dark chocolate.

Now, to the point.  Today my manager at work gave me a Bournville from his box of Heroes (he's not a big fan of chocolate, the philistine!) and, I have to say, it was totally disgusting!  It was way too sweet, tasted like it was chocolate flavoured and left a really horrible aftertaste in my mouth.  Now, I can't wait to get home from work so I can fill my gob full of Hotel Chocolat 72% heaven!  :P

What do you lot think?

Yes Bournvile is nasty.
Mind you, it has always tasted this way as far as I am concerned.

I agree. I used to love Bournville, even when I was a little kid. Those tiny bars of Bournville in Roses were enough to sway my vote for the family chocolate jar at Christmas to Roses even though on balance I'd rather have Quality Street. I bought some Bournville a while ago just because I hadn't had any for ages and I was gutted. It tasted cheap and insipid and far too sweet and there was something oddly grainy about the texture. I'm hoping its because I've got too used to Green and Blacks in the meantime, but I don't think it is because I just don't remember Bournville tasting like that. I was massively disappointed.

I have always liked Bournville (particularly Old Jamaica).  Liked it from a very young age and remember the first time I tried it and was told I wouldn't like it cos it would be too bitter.  Proved them wrong.

Bournville?  Too bitter?  WTF!!!  Try G&B 85%, mate.  Now that's what I call dark chocolate.

Galaxy is a waxy chocolate to some people but Bournvile is even worse.
