Ice Cream Maker
« on: August 15, 2006, 06:38:49 pm »

Does anyone have one of these.  I am thinking of buying one with a built in freezer because I spend a fortune on ice cream and sorbets.

You can get them with a built in freezer whick makes ice cream in 30 mins, for around 200.00 now.

You can also buy ones without a freezer, where you have to pre-freeze the bowl for about 24 hours prior to making it.

I would like one but I haven't got £200 to spare!
Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

I was given one as a wedding present 21 years ago and have never used it. I have made ice cream though. I made it in a Tupperware tub. The thing about the ice cream maker was you had to put it in the freezer and plug it in, meaning the flex would hang out of the freezer and I worried it would make the door pop open.
Old but spicey!

I was thinking of buying a kiddies one for my son as he loves ice cream and I know he would enjoy making his own but I don't really have room in my kitchen gadget cupboard and I know it wouldn't get used once the novelty wore off. Plus it's something else to wash up!

If your going to make your own, you should read up on how to in a proper cookery book and you will see that you do not need any fancy gadgets, just time, effort and a very cold freezer. Why waste a few hundred nicker on something that would cost you in utensils about £30 ?
