My husband was nearly killed by one of these maniacs on a scooter. The man shot across the road in front of him and my husband came off his motorbike.

It ended up costing the man's insurance company £10,000 for the loss of the bike, injuries to my husband and six weeks in lost earnings.

The way i see it is as they do not pay road tax they shouldn't use the roads.

IMHO anything that can get above running speed which is driven by a motor (battery or other method of drive) which for the average person is 24 mph should be Q plated and the operator should have a licence to use the things as well passing a safety test.

I hate the things myself.

ALSO... Is it me or have you noticed that most of the people who use these machines are obese and often heavy smokers?

It doesn't matter to me why they use the machines. All I ask is that they show skill in driving them, obey the lwas of the road and show consideration to other road users (and pavement users). I would expect the same from anyone usiing the road. You do not have to 'look' disabled to have significant disabilities. I have significant visual problems and although I do not need a guide dog or white stick, I do have problems getting around vehicles or objects blocking the pavement and seeing other pavement users such as speeding cyclists. Also, I can't always tell if vehicles are moving or not so these scooters can be a real hazard for me and I am probably just as needy as some people who use them.  I don't want my difficulties to get in the way of everyday life. I do a difficult job and I do it well (so I am told) and i don't ask for anything from anybody except the same curtesies and considerations that I show to other people.

That's that. I've had my rant. Now I am going out into the beautiful sunshine to hang my washing on the line!

I don't blame you, inconsiderate parking, inconsderate road users... Having a Brother who is completely blind, a sister who is partially sighted and my ex partner who is also blind... I fully understand the fustrations of other users and its a minority (as it always is) that are the offenders.

Thats why these motor scooters need to have a proper DVLC Q plate, the user registered and to have a licnece to operat the thing. You have to have a licence to use certain vehicles that are used on construction sites despite the fact that most of the worling life is off road, so why not a 4 wheeler that is just as quick as a JCB on the road?

A 50cc hair dryer, often called a mophead has to be taxed carry a licence plate and the driver of it carry a licence, so why not motor scooters that are in most cases able to keep up with a 50cc scooter that is limited to 30mph.

I also do not think that these users should be using the foot path, only where it is for access. IMHO they should be limited to the road. Maybe then these users will have a bit more respect for other road users.

They're only supposed to be doing 4mph on pavements and 8mph on roads.  I've seen them go faster; why don't they have a speed inhibitor fitted or something?
