My local shop still uses newspaper - but only around the box as a second layer.  Did they used to put the fish and chips directly in newspaper then?

Here they used to wrap the fish and chips in newspapers but there was a sheet of greaseproof paper between the food and the paper and the papers weren't used ones.

i always preferred my chips with print on them. psychological, maybe, but i thought they tasted nicer.
