Sainsbury's Basics Milk Chocolate
« on: July 21, 2008, 09:29:53 pm »
The other night I popped into Sainsbury's on my way home and had a choc craving, but was loathe to spend a lot as I had a cupboard-full of the stuff at home. I spotted the Sainsbury's Basics choc and thought I'd give it a try; at only 23p for a 100g bar, it didn't really matter if it was horrible. As it turned out, I was very pleasantly surprised. It actually tasted really nice, and despite the low price, it was 30% cocoa solids - compare that to 20% for Dairy Milk (and I think 18% for Galaxy?). I'd really recommend giving it a try.

They also do a dark version, which I haven't tried as yet - but you have to splash out 28p for that one!

I have tried most of the cheap supermarket choc and by and large they are decent.
They are a bit too creamy when applied to fruit and nut but then I am a Cadbury Fruit and Nut only fan.
The Lidl and Aldi ones are a step up again although they are a bit dearer.

I tried the white chocolate version yesterday - excellent, what a bargain!

That airport favourite 'Milka' is on offer at Netto on Monday -- 34p for a 100g bar.

Ooh, they don't seem to have the white choc one in my store - I'll have to get my mother on the case.

I noticed Morrisons do the same products for the same price. Same manufacturer?

So are Choc Oranges and many former Terry's products, following Nestle's brand asset-stripping in York.
