Royals on the front line
« on: February 29, 2008, 01:51:19 pm »
So despite the best efforts of a news blackout, we now know HRH Prince Harry has been fighting on the front line in Afghanistan for over two months.

Was this a good idea? I think it's ridiculous. I'm not saying because Harry's a prince he should get special treatment, but the reality is that if he's recognised, he'll be number one target for the enemy - and that not only puts him at risk, but all those fighting alongside him. Surely they don't deserve to be put at even more risk than the job entails as it is?

Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

I agree with you Smurfy. People say he should be treated like anyone else but because of who he is he has to be treated differently. he is more at risk because he is a prime target and that puts other troops in danger also.

However, as he's managed at least two months at the front line before being rumbled I say - good on you Harry - you've done your bit.
Old but spicey!

And now they've brought him home, because the media thought it would be a good idea to tell everyone who wanted to know exactly where he was! Bright sparks!!!
So not only did they put his life in danger, but they endangered the lives of all those fighting with him, and gave away strategic military positions to any of the enemy who watched the TV..

I am no lover of the Royal family, but I admire him for going when his position made it possible for him to ask to be excused this particular duty. And I don't blame his family one bit for wanting him home under the circumstances. That's what I'd want if it was my son or grandson.

And as Oldspice said he has done his bit.  He stayed as long as he could and has no choice about leaving. There is no shame in coming home now.

The Royal family have traditionally been military people.  the Queen herself was no slouch in the 2nd World war.  Apparently, she was a motor mechanic or something.  Crazy but true!

No one raised an eyebrow when Prince Andrew went to the Falklands.  The stir over Harry is because of the extra politicisation of the 'War agianst terror' and what a coup it would be for the Taliban/Al Qaeda to kill him.

I suspect his front line days are now over though.  He's made his point, the military have got out of a potentially embarrassing dilemma and the politicians/press will claim a moral victory.  Everyone's happy.  Apart from those losing loved ones in Afghanistan/Iraq.
