E-Petition for Pensioners Healthy Eating Allowance
« on: September 28, 2007, 06:13:12 pm »
Hi

I'm a full time carer and moderator on a carer forum.

We have started an e-petition on the No. 10 website to ask for an allowance for pensioners on low incomes to eat a more healthy diet, including more fresh fruit and vegetables something that often gets overlooked with soaring fuel costs and other living expenses. The Government is looking at a similar allowance of 200 for pregnant women, we would like to see this extended to our elderly and vulnerable population.

Age Concern are currently running a campaign to address nutrition in hospitals, elderly patients are leaving hospital malnourished not only because of poor food but because the staff have no time to help them feed, it's usually down to visitors, something I witnessed first hand a few weeks ago when my Mum was admitted to hospital - being blind she would have starved had we not gone in at mealtimes.

The petition is open to all UK residents and ex-pats, we currently have 215 signatures in just over 2 weeks (the petition runs for a year), now we have hit the 200 mark we are guaranteed a response from No. 10 but obviously the more we get the more chance we have of bringing this idea to fruition.

The link for the petition is:

Thank you for taking the time to read this, I hope you can support our cause.

I would prefer to see an end to VAT on domestic fuel - it hits everyone badly, but particularly pensioners.

Very worthy cause. Well done.

Not because you have a vested interest in the outcome, Oldspice?
