You didn't say Loulou, did you see these people because they were in front of you in the queue or were you just passing on your way home from the fish monger?

  

 

 

I was just looking out of the window as I work on the fish quay. It is always busy on  a Friday as it seems to be tradition to eat fish and chips on Fridays.

 

I had trout and cooked it myself.

  We always had fish every Friday when I was a child and would NEVER have eaten meat on Good Friday.

 

Why is that? (I mean why is a tradition not to eat meat, not why do you follow the tradtion.)

Oh I love well cooked fresh trout.

Fried in butter with thyme and basil and served with mushrooms and salad.

My brother used to fish and he was always coming home with trout. It's delicious.

 

What do you do on the quay? Is it smelly? I'm not trying to be personal I just mean does the environment smell fishy.

I have always imagined it would but I have never been to a busy working quay so I'm curious.

I don't know really, it's a strange idea and you would think it would be bread you can't eat on the day he died because bread symbolises the body of Christ and his sacrifice. There are a lot of superstitions based around Fridays and some of them originate from Pagan beliefs and

cross over with Christian teaching.

I don't think anyone was suggesting Jesus was a God? Good Friday is important because,  as the son of God, Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice to save the world from sin. That is the Christian teaching. Of course, not everyone believes this, but in a country with Christianity as its chosen faith, the holidays will be organised around these dates. Personally, although I am no longer a practising Christian, I feel Good Friday and Easter Sunday should be kept special for a variety of reasons, one being a chance for people to reflect, take a rest and re-fuel their batteries.

Yep it smells very fishy as there are many fish and chip shops but mainly wet fish shops with men filleting fish all day long. It's a busy place with the fishing boats.  I work in an office above an Italian restaurant so I smell garlic all day which is quite nice.

Oh that's nice to work somewhere that smells good.

One of my friends used to live above a real Italian pizza place (they smell totally different from places like Pizza Hut) and I was always hungry.

The smell of fresh canelloni and tagliatelli was so yummy. Oh I feel hungry now just remembering it.
