Did you work in the shop? I'm not sure I could deal with the public face to face nowadays.

Wasn't meant to be but often had to. They give you trouble for turning up 5 minutes late and if you argue back, you get a disciplinary. Also they broke safety regulations by having racks in front of fire doors, but when there was an inspection everything would be made to look immaculate.

I worked in a nursing home where everyday all the doors were held open with doorstops and the footrests were all removed from the wheelchairs and  the emergency chords were all tied into the ceiling at night (and usually forgotten to take down in the morning) so the patients couldn't pull them at night. When the firemen were expected for the fire drill all those wooden door stops were hidden in the cellar, the footrests polished and put back on wheelchairs and the emergency chords let down. That was until the day I wrote a 7 page report to social services and dropped all those evil ba*ta*ds right in the sh*t.

I'm sure it's better paid than standard office work?

I would have thought it IS standard office work.  Everyone I work with can touch type and so can my teenage boys and all their friends.  It's expected.
