X Factor contestant Ben Mills has signed a five-album deal with record label Sony BMG.

Mills, who was voted off in the ITV show's semi-finals, was compared to the young Joe Cocker by judge Simon Cowell.

The 26-year-old is currently recording his debut, which will feature songs from X Factor and his own material.

I didn't like him at all, especially when he threw a tantrum about the final song and how he thought it was all fixed for Leona to win. His first album might do OK but then so did Steve Brookstein's ...

It goes to show you don't have to win to get a record deal.

Come on, we all knew he would get a record deal, didn't we? If The Cheeky Girls can get a record deal than anyone can.

I liked him a lot. I thought he had bags of talent. He really stood out - but then no one original was going to win.
Old but spicey!

I didn't think they were allowed to sign deals until March?

Do they sign a contract saying that?

Why?

They sign a six-month contract with the show, which includes the tour. It means they can't turn around and say 'sorry, I can't do the tour/X-Factor Reunion special, I've got gigs booked/I'm in the studio' etc. Given Ben and Ray have supposedly already signed deals, maybe they've changed the rules this year.

Thanks for exlaining smurfy. That makes a lot of sense as the tour wouldn't do as well if some of the good ones were missing.
