Salmonella is present in one in every 30 boxes of eggs imported for sale in England, a food watchdog study says.

With eggs from Spain, this rises to one in eight, according to the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

Using tests on 1,744 imported boxes on sale in London and the North West, and other data, it estimated salmonella was present in 3.3% of boxes.

I buy free range organic eggs that come from Yorkshire. I would never buy imported eggs.

I ignore scare stories about food now. We'd be living on water and fresh air if we listened to them all.

I buy fresh free-range eggs from a local farm shop. We eat quite a lot of them in my house.

I hardly ever eat eggs, less than one per fortnight, but I guess there are eggs present in processed foods which I I don't notice. I think the recent scare is more related to catering places than the eggs we buy at the supermarket.

Tonight I had an omelette so there's 2 eggs but I probably won't have eggs again for another few weeks. I would say I have 5 month.
