I was relaxing in the bath today and indulging in a bit of nostagia concerning Christmas and the luxury of having boxed chocolates.
Dad always bought mum a box of Terry's Spartans, which had hard centres.
Sometimes, we had Black Magic. The Christmas boxes in those days were beautiful. They were made of reinforced cardboard and had beautiful padded lids that slightly overhung the box and fitten neatly on top. The chocolates did not sit in a moulded tray but came in individual waxed paper cups. They looked so pretty and it was such fun lifting your chosen chocolate out of the box with its crinkly paper cup.
The fillings? There was a lovely butterscotch one, a heavenly cherry cream with a half cherry and liquid cherry juice (not liquer), coffee creams, orange creams, strawberry creams, fudge, caramels and a hazelnut cluster.
If another family member bought us Milk tray to share there was the added luxury of the lime cordial one. Also, my parents approved of Milk tray because dark chocolate was not considered suitable for very young children.
