Any fans on here? Saw the special the other night and loved it. Very sad and touching but hilarious at the same time.

Saw the programme afterwards about them too, and they included the bit with the vegetarian girl and when nana said: "Can she have wafer thin ham, barbara?"

I've never seen it before but judging by the reviews it's one of those shows I would probably like if I sat down and watched it but just never got around to it.

I thought the special was fantastic. My mother was crying her eyes out at it because I think it was very close to home for her; my nan has just turned 85 and is in very poor health these days, plus she is so like Nana Royle you'd think they'd based the character on her. For example, I can remember having a virtually identical conversation to the 'wafer thin ham' one when I turned vegetarian!

I was helpless with laughter when Nana was telling Barbara about the A La Carte menu and she said "they had soup of the day - which was Friday, and roast beef and ice cream sorbet between courses and then they both had a crepe"   to which Barbara replied "Well I expect they needed it after all that food"

And what about Jim singing 'I left my half in San Fransisco'? I nearly wet myself!

I thought it was hilarious when Cheryl was explaining her new diet and how she had a Topic followed by 2 Snickers to replace a bag of nuts
