« on: February 09, 2007, 11:50:14 am »

I am nicolle and i am designing and marketing a new product as part of my A level business coursework. my product is a skittles smoothie drink for young children that will provide them with 1 of their 5 fruit and veg a day. i have decided to use the skittles brand because it is fun and many young children enjoy them. my product will come in the different flavours that skittles already come in. Please comment on my product. thank you x x

Sounds a good idea but won't parents be put off by the word Skittles? Since they're considered sugary sweets. Also Masterfoods have said they won't be advertising to children anymore, so I think if they used the Skittles brand to do so they might get some trouble.

I should contact Masterfoods marketing department if I were you as they would be able to offer you advice on where they stand in advertising and why they don't already do this.  I would associate Skittles with hyperactivity and colours so if I had children I would probably not want to buy it.  Have you thought of using a yoghurt brand instead such as Muller Kids or Much Bunch?

I think the Skittles idea is sound but I agree with the view that Skittles evoke sugar and high colouring contents in the minds of parents.

Also, I think there are too many Skittles flavours to make marketing drinks in all the flavours viable. I would go for a forest fruits or citrus burst type range with an emphasis on low sugar and no artificial colourings.

Old but spicey!
