Steve Irwin, 44, was killed by a stingray barb to the chest while he was filming an underwater documentary in Queensland's Great Barrier Reef.

He has two children, aged 8 and around 3 I think.  We met Steve and Bindi when we were in Australia as my cousin there is a friend of his.  I can't believe the news.

it is indeed sad news... i'd like to say it was unexpected, but a life like he lead has a funny way of catching up to you. you'll be missed, steve.

Stingrays are not agressive animals, I suspect he wound it up.  I could be wrong, we'll perhaps never know.  I understand the whole event was filmed and the producer will ask his wife if it can be screened.
