Are they worth it..

I've just heard on the radio that The Royal Family cost each one of us 62p each per year. Are they value for money???

Old but spicey!

I think definitely. The amount of money they bring in through tourism way outstrips what they cost us. 62p is not even 1 1/2p a week! Plus the Royals can be very useful in diplomatic terms. Look at Charles and Camilla's trip to Saudi Arabia earlier this year - hugely successful, and they were treated with reverence wherever they went. Several Middle Eastern countries that would happily bomb a Prime Minister or President will respect royalty.

I only paid 61p last year, which means I owe 63p in 2006

They have like a velevt lining, so he wouldn't get any bumps from the crown but it's a nice thought.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic Knighty but yes Muslim monarchies are proud of their kings.  It's no coincidence that the two most moderate Islamic states, Jordan and Morocco are both monarchies.  Been to both so I speak from experience.  The Jordanians love the British. The King of Jordan's Mum is British!!

I don't give any monarchy in the middle East more than 10 years. TOPS. Black-Knight38896.8884027778
