I must confess I didn't realise this was still being made, but I felt a twinge of sadness when I heard today the BBC were axing it. To anyone much over 30 it probably won't have much resonance (unless you're an Ant and Dec fan), but for my generation it was just as important as Grange Hill - with the added bonus of not being set in a school! It was VERY brave for a kids show in its time; moments like Gill being killed whilst joyriding, Noddy coming out and Amanda giving away her baby were massive talking points at the time.
RIP Byker Grove.
the thing is it been going down hill! since it moved to more of a kids aducionce not a teenage one!
at the rate its going there just No teenage programmes now availblie for teenage viewers
citv got rid for that gedna years ago and now the bbc are going the same way
Yes, well I can't say that surprises me.
I remember that one with Ant too - wasn't it a paintball accident?
Yes PJ (as he was in Byker Grove) took his goggles off early and got a paintball in the eye.
I didn't realise Byker Grove was still going; I did used to watch it when I was younger. There were quite a few careers started in that show, not just PJ and Duncan.
Ant and Deck were enormously talented actors. It's a pity that their talent is being so shamefully wasted now.
I don't live far from Byker.
