That's because ITV are a) bitter that they made a complete cock-up of the chance they had with the Premiership highlights and b) even more bitter that the BBC now have that contract back. The Boat Race is the first thing since that they've managed to get from the BBC and the only sporting event apart from the Grand Prix they have the rights to, so they blew it up out of all proportion.
