Any terrorists will be people who entered the country illegally and work cash in hand and manage very nicely without ID cards (and don't tell me there won't be anyone willing to employ without them!) Then if we get another July 7th we'll find that, surprise surprise, the bomber didn't have an ID card!

The evening news reported that the chances of us suffereing another terrrorist attack is high and it is just as likely to be carried out by a british citizen as a foreign one. Given that the July 7th bombers actually BLEW THEMSELVES UP, whether they had an identity card or not, the result would have been the same. Somone who wants to blow themselves up will willingly carry a card and someone who is willing to blow other people up will happily carry a card.

Old but spicey!

Not necessarily. The July 7th bombers were all from England, weren't they?

Yes, everyone in Spain carries ID cards but it didn't prevent the Madrid bombings.  There is NO defense against the suicide bomber -none.  You could issue someone with ten ID cards and if they want to blow themselves up on a train they will.  Tony Blair and his cronies are complete twats.  No I take it back, I like twats.  They are complete bowls of smegma.

it's just more ways to take away our natural and civil rights. a similar thing happened in the usa after 9/11... no id cards, but new laws were passed to make it alot easier for police etc. to challenge people in the street and even detail 'suspects' with zero evidence. this is a law which was refused for nearly 30 years due to public outrage - and then suddenly the twin towers go down and it's passed... only this time the public don't disagree because they're terrified with all the terrorist warnings gouing around. read between the lines. id cards will lead to much worse things.
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

And I suppose that means ID cards would've prevented it?

Absolutely not. The July bombers would have obtained Id cards.

From a purely personal point of view I would welcome ID cards as in my job I constantly have to ask people for ID and they hardly ever have any.

My mum doesn't drive and hasn't had a passport for years. She wasn't allowed to open a bank account (ISA) because these were the only permitted forms of ID.
