70s again
« on: February 04, 2006, 10:17:48 am »

As I was dusting today, for no apparent reason, a song came into my head and I had to smile. It was by a 70s singer who came from nowhere, had a few months of massive fame and then disappeared again without trace. He was no teenage pin-up - he appealed more to middle-aged and older women. He had several very big hits, the type of songs that get into your head and stay there for days.

No, it wasn't Demis Russoss - it was......

HURRICAN SMITH!!

Anyone remember him??

By the way did you say dusting?  On a Saturday?  Sunday is housework day!

Hurricane Smith, yes remeber it well.

(E.S. Smith)

As I have hoped for half a chance
To even ask if I could dance with you, you oo
Would you greet me or politely turn away
Would there suddenly be sunshine on a cold and rainy day
Oh, Babe
What would you say

For there are you sweet lollipops
Here am I with such a lot to say, hey hey
Just to walk with you along the Milky Way
To caress you through the night time
Bring you flowers everyday
Oh Babe
What would you say

Just so, Baby I know
I know I could be so in love with you
And I know that I could make you love me too
And if I could only hear you say you do, oo oo oo oo
But anyway
What would you say

[Instrumental Interlude]

Just so, Baby I know
I know I could be so in love with you
And I know that I could make you love me too
And if I could only hear you say you do, oo oo oo oo
But anyway
What would you say

By the way Oldspice, did you mean that you were dusting for no apparent reason or was that a Freudian slip?    I always find it a waste of time myself.

I have been very good today! I have dusted the living room, cleaned the kitcen, posted on the Forum AND - completed some very tough marking (Discourse Analysis).

Hey, can that be the only song with a chocolate bar in the lyrics? (Milky Way)

Song featuring double decker...

Get on board! Get on board!
Come and join the Double Deckers.
Take a ticket for a journey,
On our double decker London bus.
Ring the bell (ding ding), Toot the horn (honk honk),
When you ride with the Double Deckers.
Fun and laughter is what we're after,
On our double double double decker bus.

songs with choc references... the gauntlet is laid down

Was that from the programme called the Double Deckers?  There were also fish finger type things years ago called Double Deckers - they had varieties like baked bean and mashed potato.  Think they were Birds Eye.
