Not sure if strictly this one is a carol, but I always like 'In the Bleak Mid Winter'. Very quaint.
Like 'Deck the Halls' as well.... Fa la la la la etc.
In the bleak mid-winterFrosty wind made moanEarth stood hard as ironWater like a stoneSnow had fallen, snow on snowSnow on snowIn the bleak mid-winterLong agoAngels and archangelsMay have gathered thereCherubim and seraphimThronged the airBut only his motherIn her maiden blissWorshipped the belovedWith a kissWhat can I give himPoor as I am?If I were a shepherdI would bring a lambIf I were a wise manI would do my partYet what I can I give himGive my heartIn the bleak mid-winterFrosty wind made moanEarth stood hard as ironWater like a stoneIf I were a wise manI would do my partYet what I can I give him?Give my heart
When I was younger I sang in a choir, and the first verse of Once in Royal David's City was sang as an unaccompanied solo. Unfortunately the last thing we had practised was Hark the Herald Angels Sing and I sang the solo to the wrong tune - the words fit for the first four lines.....
