General / Re: TV on Christmas Days in years gone by
« on: January 03, 2014, 03:50:08 pm »
I think what I missed this year on TV was comedy. I found the Birds of a Feather 1992 Christmas special on Drama and my parents and I loved it; however,  I knew it practically by heart because I used to have it on VHS with the Only Fools and Horses, 2 Point 4 Children and Waiting for God specials from the same year, which I used to watch over and over. The only sitcoms I can think of that even got Christmas specials this year were Mrs Brown's Boys and Outnumbered (and don't get me started on how I loathe the former), unless you count the Open All Hours revival, which was a nice slice of nostalgia, but didn't appear to have a plot of any kind. Is sitcom just a dead format in the UK now?

I was really disappointed to see someone on my Facebook friend list ranting about how he'd seen more tributes to Paul Walker (who he described as 'second-rate') on FB than to Peter O'Toole. I'd never actually heard of Paul Walker before he died so can't say whether he was any good as an actor or not - but isn't it a) a bit pretentious to tell people which celebrity death matters more and b) a bit short-sighted not to realise that Walker's was the more shocking death? Of course Peter O'Toole was a great actor, but he was also 81 and had been through decades of health problems; hardly a man cut off in his prime.

I think Caramel Lindors were new this year too - they'd definitely get my vote!

Foreign Products / Irish section at Sainsbury's
« on: November 18, 2013, 02:52:52 pm »
I don't know how many branches have this, but if there is a large Irish community where you live it's worth a look, as they sell Cadbury Tiffin, Golden Crisp and Mint Crisp. I've no idea why we don't get those here - I enjoy them all! 95p a bar for a fairly small bar: more expensive than average, but cheaper than somewhere like Cybercandy (and probably easier to get to for most people).

Yeah, sadly I think it's a simple case of sugar being cheaper than cocoa. I still enjoy chocolate but it doesn't feel like the treat it once did.

Anyone still watching? I have to say this is one of the weakest set of finalists I've ever seen. I thought Tamera was the closest thing to an 'obvious' winner, but not so sure now. I think I'm on Team Hannah now - she's got real power in her voice.

I've had a few of those - they just auto-dial as many numbers as they can and go to whoever answers first. It drives me mad; I'd just ignore numbers I didn't recognise, but I'm job-hunting at the moment so can't afford to take the risk of not answering a potentially important call :(

New Products / Re: Quality Street Fruit Cremes

Actually it's me that needs to learn to read  :-[ The other variety is Toffee and Fudge, not Toffee and Nutty. Oops!

Also, the cremes include a lemon creme which I'm pretty sure is not available in regular Quality Street (although not bought any in ages so it could be a new addition).

I was obviously having a slightly blond day when I posted about these - they're milk choc with a white centre, not white choc.

New Products / Coconut Lindors

The idea does nothing for me, but I think we have a few coconut fans on here... White choc BTW. Currently £3.37 a box in Sainsbury's instead of £4.50 (that goes for the whole Lindor range).
