Old Products / Who made Glees?
« on: October 03, 2006, 12:31:28 pm »

I remember Glees, they were like round Tooty Frooties but nicer.

Don't know who made them, but I can't remember them being around after about 1980-ish.

Long thread, but I don't think these have been mentioned yet...

Walnut Whip

Take Two (Mint, Coffee, Orange, Marzipan and Vanilla)

Frys Chocolate Cream (Five Centres is already listed but the CC was nearly as nice).  And was there was a mint one too?

Caramac - the real stuff, not the vile coating that masquerades as Caramac on those horrid kit-kats.

General / Chips or mashed potato?
« on: May 09, 2006, 01:56:01 pm »

Love chips, can't stand mashed potato, not keen on jacket potato either.

And I'm with goldencup on rice - I love it more than chips.

To the question "Rice, chips or half-and-half", I always answer "Rice".

My husband used to live in Wales before they closed it down.

But how come the Welsh get all the Aztecs?

I quite liked Aztecs, and in fact had one a couple of weeks ago.  I was amazed to discover them for sale at Borth Golf Club in Wales (don't ask).  They were in date too!

Had a Thornton's Ginger egg and the egg was made of plain chocolate with tiny pieces of ginger embedded in it - gorgeous!

I will go with the majority view here, I must be suffering from false memory syndrome because I would put money on the fact that they did have a fondant layer!

Maybe a bit of Tunnocks research is called for......

General / What are you reading?
« on: March 23, 2006, 05:02:28 pm »

I'm reading Kenneth Williams's diaries, after seeing the Fantabulosa! programme on TV.  Very good.

I didn't like "The Time Traveller's Wife" - too slow and too sentimental.  Couldn't get into Captain Corelli either.

My all-time favourite book is Catch-22 by Joseph Heller.

True. And the 'cream' is often hard and nasty.

That is sadly true, sometimes the cream is practically solid and very granular.  Not nice.  I like the cream to be of a pouring consistency, about the same consistency as clear honey.  Mmmmm.

I find that strange because two of my favourite chocolate products, Tunnock's Teacakes and Tunnock's Caramel Wafers have not changed their taste, consistency or even their wrappers in at least forty years and yet they are enormously popular. Tunnocks actuall trade on the notion that their products do not change!

In the 1970's I remember that the Tunnock's Caramel Wafers had a yellow fondant layer in the middle, now it's all just wafer and caramel.  Also, in the 1970's the wrapper said "More than 1,000,000 of these biscuits are made and sold every week" - what's the number now?  I think last time I looked it was 4,000,000.

Where did Lime Candy disappear to? It was nice having another Weekend fan on the Forum.

I am back!  Got sidetracked with boring things like work and home life!

A grizzly bear walks into a bar.

He says, "Vodka............................................... and coke, please"

The barman says, "Why the big pause?"
