Discontinued? / Caramel Cups (dark choc I think)
« on: January 08, 2006, 05:48:42 pm »

Ello all! I did post this to the Old Products section, but realised it is probably better in the Discontinued forum...

------------------

Hi, I was curious if anybody recognises this chocolate and where I may be able to get some from.

They used to be sold in Asda pick and mix (and Woolworths and probably most other pick & mix retailers). They were a cup / dome shaped chocolate and it was a soft (runny, liquid) caramel in a thick
dark chocolate cup. They may even have been called Caramel Cups.

I am sure the manufacturer may have begun with 'T' but it could have been anything (maybe even Jameson). They were wrapped in gold foil as I remember. I have seen these up until about 2 or 3 years ago which makes me think they are now discontinued.

If anybody knows anything about them, I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

PS - Chocolate Chick did reply, but I am sure they were Dark chocolate. Would love to track them down!

Recipes / Milkshake recipes?
« on: January 08, 2006, 05:45:53 pm »

There is a bar I sometimes go to in Birmingham that has a Cookies and Cream cocktail. It contains a chocolate liquer, but the main base is ice cream.

I had tried recreating it at home, and wasn't quite the same. It lacked the ice texture. Then the girlfriend had a brainwave... add ice cubes in a blender. It gives it that missing texture!

So if you want that McDonalds thick shake texture, add some drinking chocolate (the stuff with sugar in the ingredients list, not to be confused with cocoa powder which needs sugar adding) to some milk and vanilla ice-cream, put in about 3 - 5 ice cubes and blend. Quantities are usually 3 heaped teaspoons of drinking chocolate powder, then about one part milk to two parts ice-cream for a tall glass full.

And to try and recreate the Cookies and Cream recipe (from the Living Room on Broad Street in Birmingham city centre) then use vanilla ice-cream, ice cubes, milk with a shot of Baileys, a shot of Creme de cacoa and fill up with cream (I think they use the squirty cream) and whallop a Bourbon biscuit in it. Drink with straw. Mmmmm... delicious!
