Produced a product to rival Smarties? Rowntrees first produced Smarties many, many years ago and Mars have had similar products such as Treats, which became Minstrels - and of course they have M&Ms. But why haven't Cadbury's ever produced a chocolate bean product? With their somewhat superior chocolate taste, I think a chocolate bean product would be a real winner.
-
I hadn't even thought about it before you asked oldspice.
Now I wonder. lol
-
Cadbury probably didn't want to get into that market. They were mates with Rowntree back in their Quaker days and weren't into the whole competition thing like that. Now that Kraft have them, you may get your wish at some point.
-
You make a very interesting observation, Spicy. Now my head is confused. Genuinely. Have no idea why they weren't all over that idea years ago.
-
If you look at your chocolate history, you'll notice that, in the past, the big chocolate makers of the day didn't compete much against each other. They usually made their own version of things. I suppose you could argue that a Mackintosh's Golden Cup was a bit like a Cadbury's Caramel, but the chocolate and toffee were distinctly different.
I'm surprised Kraft haven't got around to it!
-
Cadbury's did actually attempt a rival to the KitKat bar with Bar Six - but it was years after the KK bar came out. I adored bar Six and thought it was vastly superior to the KK bar.
I don't think Cadbury's Caramel came out until Goldencup had disappeared - but I could be wrong. I much preferred Goldencup.
-
I suppose it was the hazelnut cream that made it taste better than a Kit Kat.
-
Hazelnut cream? never, I would not go near a hazelnut! Had a bite of my husband's KitKat Chunky bar today. YYYYYEEEEEEEUUUUUKKKKK! Sickly, sickly, sickly revolting codswallop.
-
But, that's what was in a Bar Six. It probably didn't taste much like hazelnut.
-
what about Cabuarys Tasters
-
Mmmm... looooved Tasters.
-

No, they were definitely around at the same time - I remember liking both as a child.

What about them?? What were/are they?
-

No, definitely not. The filling wasn't hazelnut.

Yes, you are probably right. They overlapped. I think Caramel came out in the late 70s.
I still dream about those little dome-shaped Goldencup bars with the flat bottom and silver paper that always stuck to the bar at some point. They were wonderful. Much nicer than Caramel.

Right, I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!! I have been shopping today - and guess what?? Cadbury's have launched a chocolate bean product!! It's called 'Pebbles'. I honestly, honestly had no idea when I posted this thread. They are very expensive - £1.98 a bag (a family size)
and I got them from Asda.
-
Will keep a look out for these. :D
-
Mmm... need to try these.
-
Hi everyone. I'm new here. :D
I saw these the other day in Asda but did not fancy buying. The colours looked a little pale.

Gotta be better than their new bar, what was it again cola pretzel something or other - weird
-
Is it me, or are these just Mini Eggs in a different packet?
-
They definitely look a bit like Mini Eggs...
-

They are flatter than mini eggs - but taste much the same. A kind of large, misshapen chocolate bean.
-
Looked for them in Asda and Morrisons today, but nothing. (Sad face.)

Haven't checked but was that Galaxy Caramel? I know Cadburys Caramel was out that long ago but didn't think Galaxy was. And in any case, both obviously far inferior to the wonderful Golden Cup, especially the small bars as mentioned by Oldspice. Sigh.
-
And I'm also convinced that Bar Six didn't have anything involving hazelnut in it.
-
A Bar Six was just an analogue of a Kit Kat was it not?
-
I hated Bar Six. They had this after taste that I found really unpleasant.
-
I used to loooooove Bar Six as a kid... though I remember them being very waxy and quite sickly.

Yes, it was Cadbury's Caramel - that's what we we're talking about :/

Duh - sorry Smurfy!
