Title: The positive thread
Post by: oldspice on September 07, 2012, 08:37:08 am
There has been a lot of negativity on the boards lately so I have started a thread where people can post positive things.

I'll start off with a few.

Our paralympians have now won 31 gold medals and our medal total is 108!

Strictly Come Dancing starts this weekend! (or is it next weekend??)

My daughter has just got her MSc despite working full time as a paramedic while studying for it.

the sun is still shining beautifully like june and it's september.

The Hobbit will be in cinemas in a few short months.

my daughter has finally mastered the complicated mechanics of using a toilet.

oh, and baby hippos. just... baby hippos.

It's been a beautiful sunny, warm weekend. In fact, it's been 80 degrees plus here. I've been to two car boot sales and picked up some favourite bits of vintage ceramics.

My plum tree is loaded with plums and I've been picking them and handing them out to neighbours. (One woman asked me what she should do with them. She'd never eaten a plum before and her face was full of doubt - as if I'd handed her a bag of dynamite! In the end she said 'no thanks!' and shut the door!!)

Last night I enjoyed 'Last Night of the Proms' so much. So many of my favourites! Bruch, Dvorak, Shostakovitch - wonderful!

trains are postive... i guess. whatever floats your boat.

been watching that bbc3 tourettes show the last couple of weeks... found that to be a very positive experience. amazing how people (especially youngsters) can turn their tormented existance into something good.

i got to level 17 of Manic Miner after 30 years of being stuck on level 5. go me!

umm, what else... a mummy duck and a bunch of her ducklings wandered past my house last week. that was cute.

anyone else?

it was more about how the train just passes by and everyone gets on with things

I'm really freaky about trains so I didn't like that footage. It made me feel sad.

Pity the thread has gone this way. I thought it would be a nice opportunity for people to post things that made them happy or made them smile - after all, there is so much sadness and stress around at the moment.

Hi GC. Lovely to hear from you. Hope you can catch up with your hubby soon and celebrate 28 years of marriage. Fantastic!

But these things do make me happy! Everyone hates fascist dictators who run governments using military regimes. So, when they die, it's a good thing! Everyone is happy!  :D

But, maybe that's too strong...

Hmm, positive...

Flash Gordon is alive! Now, that's positive!!!

It's a beutiful sunny day, I've done my marking and lesson planning, the washing is drying on the clothes line and I spent the morning at a car boot sale where I got some lovely retro glass and ceramic pieces for a few pence. How good is that?

AND - for those who remember the 70s, I got a Stylophone for £3 and my efforts at playing 'Telstar' have sent the cats behind the sofa!

i'm dangerous at carboot sales. i disappear with a tenner and come back with a car full of crap. sure it's meant to be the other way round.

We love them. He buys old LPs and I buy ceramics and glass from the 50s, 60s and 70s and lots of other odds and ends like old shelf units, shabby old chairs and other strange stuff. I once bought a huge knitted Womble for £2 which started by daughter (then a fully grown 20 year old) having a passion for Wombles and now her little cottage is stuffed with them.

We love charity shops too.

Oh no! Never bought anything from ebay. You can't beat poking around in boxes and under tables for something tucked away that is beautiful or interesting to you, but is only worth 50p to the seller.
Title: Re: The positive thread
Post by: wjp666 on October 08, 2012, 05:25:05 pm
indeed. i find ebay handy but it is nothing in comparison to delving into boxes on wallpaper-tables in a field. like i said - i can fill my car up for a tenner... can't do that on ebay! wouldn't even cover the postage!

Oh what a cutie! And I see chocolate fondness is a family trait!

Thanks for posting.

Don't laugh, but only this morning I was commenting on how much I would like to have another baby.  I'm 55!!  Don't think my husband was so keen though.

That's what you get for listening to The Archers (a couple on the programme are having a baby late in life).

yeah, she's such a cutie. and she actually requested a chocolate cake for her birthday... don't know where she gets her sweet, chocolatey tooth from, lol.

and hey - 55 isn't too old for another babby. weirder things have happened. i say go for it! ;-)
