i realise i'm a bit behind most of the rest of you here, but today i had my first Hershey bar (our Asda have just started stcoking it.) good god! how do americans eat this crap? it tasted like cheap Lidl chocolate. i mean i'd heard bad things but nothing could have prepared me for this. and it aint cheap either! i am truly traumatised.
-
... and the genuine vomit aftertaste was not appreciated either!
-
It's not perhaps that well known - but the reason it's called Hershey is that it echoes the sounds of people hurling after eating one of those bars. You know - they sort of go HERRRRRSHEEEEEEYYYYY.
(No -they're named after the company founder really).
-
Congratulations, wjp, you've had your first and last Hershey bar. They only contain about 10% cocoa solids. What the other 90% is, I have no idea and never want to know. I agree with you about how Americans eat that crap.
-
i'm pretty sure the remaining 90% is sugar and candle-wax.

That's damn tasty! NOT!!!

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... sickly.

I took a pic of the stock in my local asda, I upload it soon, its has all kind of the stuff: Dark, milk, also KISS?
-
it was the Kisses that left me tasting vomit shortly after each one. seriously, what the hell is that all about?

Why are you taking pictures of the stock in your local Asda? If you're not careful they'll send round the men in black and you'll vanish mysteriously.
-
I wrote about it on Foodstuff Finds (linky in my sig) if you want to see a pic - Took some into work for people to try. One quote said the flavour reminded him of "being 18 at a party and the girl he fancied just threw up but he snogged her anyway". lol

Whilst I applaud Asda for bringing more American produce to our shores (it's not all bad - Pepperidge Farm cookie anyone?), I think we could all do without Hershey.
I suppose you could argue it's an acquired taste - much like our own Cadbury Dairy Milk, although there are lots of stories of Americans desperate to get that instead of Hersheys.
-
Hershey must really hate Scottish people!
-
well something on that shelf had sold out. amazing!

I think it was Hershey Haggis Kisses!

It's a mystery to me. I and my partner had our first Hershey Bar in the mall underneath the World Trade Centre when we visited NY in 96. I mean, everyone's heard of Hershey, right, so it must be good stuff, right. How would it get so well known otherwise, right. . . . . . . . ?
. . . . . . she had to spit it out, and was nearly sick, and I thought it tasted like dogs' chocolate*. Horrible, horrible, horrible!!! How on earth can anyone like it ??? ??? ??? ??? ???
*I was duped into eating some in the playground at primary school in case anyone's wondering. :D

Welcome, godlins! Another person who hates Hershey bars!
-
yay! we stand united!

OK, I'd read all this and I should have believed it, I really should. But I didn't. I'd had Hersheys white Cookies & Creme before and quite liked it. So when an American friend brought me a packet of six bars of Hershey milk chocolate recently I was quite excited. This morning I had one piece. The rest of the bar and the other five unopened ones have gone in the bin. I can't remember ever actually throwing chocolate away before but this was truly disgusting. And it's quite right about the vomit aftertaste! Do Americans really like this stuff? Presumably so as I hadn't done anything to offend my friend!

Some of the chocs from Lidl are OK. I like their industrial rainbow drops. Their Mr Choco range is good too.
-
Lidl choc hurts my teeth.
-
Lidl is evil! Avoid!
-
Lidl choc is absolutely fine - compared with Hershey anyway
-
Oh no, Am I the only person that eat hershey here? :( I think they taste good.
-
i think there is something desperately wrong with your tastebuds. i hope you don't go delivering hershey 'directly to my door'.
-
well, because you were so polite owedding, i might just buy some ugg boots now! your strategy worked!
-
Ugg boots are just furry wellies.
-
and expensive ones at that!
