I went to see the new version of this today.
Very good with a lot of the leading characters portraying the original actors playing the characters very well.
Great effects and a not bad storyline.
Worth seeing if you are a Trekkie and perhaps if you are not.

i've been pondering going to see it. i'm still undedcided. i was a big fan of the original series and i don't want this film to taint my memories of it.
-
Justin Lee Collins is on tonight 9pm travelling to Los Angeles attempting to reunite the original cast of Star Trek.
-
ah, yes - cool. thanks for the reminder. (bet he wont get within a mile of kirk or spock.)

I am too, wjp.
I found myself chuckling at the little mannerisms the actors maintained. Bones is great.
I recommend it to you.

Did you have popcorn?
-
i'll take your advice pham and go see it next week. i'm hearing nothing but good things about it from all angles.
and as for JLC - i just KNEW he wouldn't get shatner!
-
JLC was good.

Did you have popcorn?
Nope, not a thing.
There was a group of girls taking up a whole row across from us. They sat and giggled, talked, texted, looked at their phones and kept nipping off to the loo. Why the hell did they even bother?
-
You should have complained and had them thrown out. It's just chavs looking for somewhere warm and dry to spend the afternoon.
-
They didn't sound chavvy. More like daddy's little girl.
-
bratz
-
Exactly.
-
We have the same problem on Gallifray with popcorn eaters at the Cinema Galacticus
-
they should be eating planets.

I don't go to the cinema anymore because of crap like this. Why would anybody pay money to sit in a cinema and chat?

There was a kid at school a bit like you, mate. He was weird too. Anyway, you cannot be real because Gallifrey was locked in a time bubble at the end of the Time War!
-
Ha! Ignore him, he's always looking up Uranus.

At my sisters the other day, there was either a Star Trek film on the TV. None of us being Star Trek fans, it was turned over. But before that, there some robot or human in pieces, and they were going to put it back together. My sister thought it would be rediculous if it came back to life so said "Everything works in Star Trek".
"...Apart from the script" I replied.
*escapes quietly*:D

.....did anyone laugh?
-
Laugh? I nearly bought one!
-
It entertained me so much i bought the company.

Laugh at what? Star Trek or my taking the P out of it?
-
That's just rediculous.
-
I stopped myself from doing that.

Does sarcasm really go over people's heads these days?

Yes

You're getting mixed up with hair nets again, aren't you?
-
I can put another positive vote for the new film.
Just got back from Florida you see :-)
Went and saw it in IMAX (although I expected 12,000 watts of sound to make my ears bleed and was a little bit disappointed when they didn't).
I was never much of a fan of any of the star trek series (watchable if not much else is on), although I do think wrath of khan is a pretty good film - haven't yet decided if the new one is better than that or not.
-
i always thought the first 6 star trek movies were just great. fell apart when TNG took over.
-
I love Trek, so I disagree with everyone! Mind you, Babylon 5 and Battlestar Galactica (new version) are better.
-
i used to loooooooove B5. but i didn't stick with it all the way through. wish i did.
-
Oh, but you must! Saying that, I still haven't seen the Call To Arms TV Movie and I really would like to. Plus, B5: Crusade was cut off in its prime! It was shaping up to be really good.
-
work commitments at the time forced me to stop watching all my fave tv shows - B5 being one of them. apparently, i stopped watching just as things took a turn for the amazing. i must invest in the dvd's one day.
-
I expect there's a giant box set out there just waiting for you to pick it up!
-
Did any of you gents ever watch Farscape?
I adored that program. It mixed humour along with some interesting storylines. The cartoon episode was quite surreal!
-
best sci-fi series ever? definitely 'V'. that show f'n ROCKED!
-
Hmmmm, it started out ok and did a nosedive about 15 episodes in.
-
oh - when i say 'V' i only refer to the original mini-series and 'the final battle' sequel. the follow-up - 'V - the series' - was painful to watch. as a fan, i still own them all on VHS and DVD - but i never watch them. it hurts too much.
