Title: Do you suffer ringing in your ears?
Post by: loulou on March 25, 2009, 04:33:33 pm
Scientists believe they are a step closer to curing tinnitus after they have found what could be the root cause of ringing in the ears.

Studies show hearing loss can go hand-in-hand with over-excitable nerves within brain areas that process sound.

This uncontrolled nerve activity causes the noises that plague people with tinnitus and appears to be down to gene changes, Neuroscience reports.

And it raises the hope of treatment by silencing nerve activity, experts say.

i've had tinnitus for over a year now. it's pretty mild (buzzing though, not ringing) but sometimes at night it's so annoying. and drugs like decongestants make it worse, so i have to be careful what in take.

i was told it gets worse with age, so a cure now before i get any older would be an f'n miracle!

Since I was about 8 from a head injury. Thing is a bugger because I can not hear a conversation in a room or when loud noise like in a club or by a road side. Over the years I have taught myself lip reading which has come in very handy on a couple of occasions.

Mine gets that bad that I get like the old TV finished tone that you used to get when TV stations shut down at night before the world went 24 hour. Bloody annoying I can tell you.

christ... all night long i've had this awful ringing in my left ear. i fear my bearable slight buzzing tinnitus has transmorphed into full-on ringing. i really hope there is a cure on its way!
