Title: Jam or marmalade?
Post by: loulou on March 08, 2009, 01:57:58 pm
It's news that will leave Paddington Bear choking on his sandwiches: sales of marmalade are diving and a new, sweeter interloper - orange jam - is threatening to lure away even more fans.
Industry analysts say our love for the breakfast spread - also adored by Winston Churchill - has been waning dramatically in recent years.
In the past three alone, sales have dropped by more than eight per cent  - and in one, 2006, nearly 500,000 families stopped buying marmalade altogether.
Do you prefer jam or marmalade? I prefer marmalade.

If you search the  :o I mean internet, you will find all sorts of stories and facts about it.

They wonder why our love for marmalade is waining, well with parents serving up pop tarts, is it any wonder?

I prefer Marmalade over a prefab slab of toasted e-numbers something with a sugary filling that tastes of jam any day.

Yes but what is the difference between lemon curd and lemon cheese?
Orange curd is available as well too, I notice.

Curds have more juices in so it is more tart in flavor and are not as thick as the cheese or custards.

Lemon curd is used for allot of fillings as an alternative to jam.

I love lemon curd, as long as it is a good quality, not-too-sweet one. I am not crazy about jam. I like Roses Lime Marmalade and good quality Ginger Conserve.

I only like the jelly marmalades, lime or lemon.  Don't like the bits.  Having said that, I buy a jar regularly about every four years and end up throwing most of it away.  I'd forgotten all about lemon curd and may have to go and buy some now.  Lemon curd muffins sound yum!

I don't really eat jam or marmalade anymore.  If it ain't St Dalfour fruit spread, it ain't worth the toast!

At least it's got a huge percentage of fruit in it, unlike usual jam or marmalade.  You can find it in Holland & Barratt in all sorts of fun flavours.

ah, but the question when it comes to peanut butter - smooth or crunchy? i really am undecided on that one: i love 'em both, pending on what mood i'm in.

I only like the crunchy and it has to be Whole Earth organic (without any salt or other nasties).

And yes Paulham, I DO like peanut butter but not anywhere near chocolate!

I was first introduced to peanut butter about 8 years ago, I had gone my entire life without needing to even wonder or try it. I afterall knew what peanuts were, whar they taseted like but never had peanut butter in my life.

Well I tried it, its no different from eating a packet of KP, don't know what all the fuss is over because to me, they taste no different.

I have even tried that nutella stuff which INHO is disgusting stuff, I would rather have PB and real chocolate spread than that mullock.
