so, was i the only sap up late last night watching?
did 'Slumdog' really deserve all that attention?
would mr. ledger have really won best supporting actor if he was still with us?
i for one was sad to see mickey rourke get robbed of best actor by sean penn.

I've seen Slumdog and The Wrestler. I think Slumdog definitely deserved the awards it got. As for The Wrestler, well, I couldn't see how Mickey Rourke got nominated as I think he was wooden and mumbling and the film was very boring, in my opinion. There were some aspects of it that struck me - for example how a man can impose utter carnage on another man's body on the canvas and yet behave like a gentleman to his partner before and after the match - even to the extent of calling the other one 'sir'. The stapler machine act was freaky.

i'm off to see 'Slumdog' later this week and get to the bottom of all this hype.
as for 'The Wrestler' - i thought it was a great film, and i really thought mickey's role was just amazing. (i've found him wooden in just about every movie he's ever done, but not this one.) i personally thought it moved at a swift pace and didn't lag at all. (well, maybe i'm being a tad prejudiced here because it's subject matter is something i'm really into.)

I'm probably being unfair as it's not the sort of film I would usually watch - although years ago I really enjoyed The Champ.

'The Champ' - classic stuff (in its own way.)

The Wrestler was a fantastic movie, and it is ashame the film got shut out from any awards.

indeed! well said.

I haven't seen the wrestler or slumdog (yet :) ) but from all accounts it does seem very unfair that mickey rourke missed out - it seems unlikely that he'll ever have another role so ideal for him.

that's the way i see it. sean penn is bound to have another chance down the road somewhere.
