Title: X Factor
Post by: loulou on October 12, 2008, 12:28:08 pm
Who's been watching? I have to agree with those two girl bands beeing in the bottom two last night and either of them could quite easily have been voted off. I think the ones who stayed will go next week.
Alexandra to win.

I like the little blonde boy and the dark boy with bushy hair. They've got good voices and it's time we had some youngsters back in the music business (like Donny and Michael years ago!).

What a load of crap!
If he geniunely thought that was funny then it is the first nail in his coffin regarding his comedy career.
It difficult to distinguish that from the real thing at times, albeit that the real thing is unintentionally amusing. Profanity before the watershed was uncalled for and then Cat Deeley's outburst was just cringeworthy!
The second half just seemed to drag on and on.
Sorry Peter, it just won't ding-dang do.

I didn't think the girl bands deserved to be in the bottom two - I think they probably suffered from a split vote (i.e. fans of girl groups picked the one they liked best, and there weren't enough votes to support two acts).

Am I the only one who thinks it's grossly unfair that last year Emily was thrown out for an alleged (and I emphasise alleged) happy slapping, yet this year an ex-con with a drug problem is given unconditional support?
Title: Re: X Factor

It does sound like double standards.  I treally hate it when a candidate goes to an audition and gives the judges a sob stroy. It's so corny and emabarrassing.
Title: Re: X Factor
Post by: loulou on October 13, 2008, 11:16:35 pm
I don't like that Rachels attitude. Why should the public feel sorry for someone who has been in prison and had her kids taken into care?
Title: Re: X Factor
Post by: oldspice on October 14, 2008, 07:06:21 am
I know it's unkind, but I can't help feeling the same Lou. Also, she says she's doing this for her kids, but how can it be good for her kids if she wins? They'll never see her! All they'll get is a ton of material things. I bet they'd be much happier with just her undivided attention.
Title: Re: X Factor
Post by: bounty hunter on October 20, 2008, 12:10:16 pm
Rachel's voice is phenomenal.  I think allowing the public to vote is spoiling the show.  It should be left to the judges.  Daniel should be out by now; he's a lovely guy but he's a pub singer.  He murdered One day in your life.
Title: Re: X Factor
Post by: smurfboy on October 20, 2008, 02:47:14 pm
Daniel only got through because of his story. Yes, it's desperately sad that his wife died in childbirth, but the harsh truth is that doesn't make him any more talented. Would he honestly be there if his wife was still alive?

Title: Re: X Factor

Title: Re: X Factor
Post by: bounty hunter on October 26, 2008, 07:15:39 pm
The results are based on the public's vote, who got it right last night, so it's impossible to fix.  ITV would be closed down if they did.

Last night Rachel was a show stopper, her voice is extraordinary and her performance was that of a professional.  The next Shirley Bassey?

Everyone else is in a different league.  Laura peaked too soon if you ask me.  I think Alexandra is very good and so is the 17 year old girl whose name escapes me.  Eioghan will take some beating but I think he will have a great career and not win X Factor.  Daniel rightly went through on the sing off but how long can he hang on for?

Title: Re: X Factor
Post by: loulou on October 26, 2008, 07:58:56 pm
Last week they gave out the wrong number for Ruth so people were unable to vote for her, hence she ended up in bottom 2.

But how would anyone know it had been fixed? It wouldn't necessarily come out.

I think Daniel should have gone. He's a better than average singer, but you need more than 'better than average' to win it. He'd never have a pop career.

I know it's not a very gracious or generous thing to do, but on Saturday, I couldn't help thinking how much more mileage he could squeeze from his wife's sad death. Even Louis was in tears!
Title: Re: X Factor

I'm amazed at how much information people share about their private lives on tv just for the sympathy vote.
Title: Re: X Factor
Post by: bounty hunter on October 29, 2008, 06:48:46 am
I think you're all being unkind, although he isn't good enough as a singer to be in the competition, but obviously gets enough of the public 'who like that sort of thing' to vote for him.

Smurfboy, what are you talking about?  If ITV did try to keep a fix quiet, do you really think they would risk certain closure/astronomical fine?  After, the last debacle with phone votes being mishandled the authorities and probably the government would lynch them.
Title: Re: X Factor
Post by: smurfboy on October 29, 2008, 01:46:47 pm
I'm not saying that it IS a fix - just that it's far from impossible. Surely the phone-in scandals of the past few years prove that?
Title: Re: X Factor
Post by: loulou on October 30, 2008, 08:36:11 am
I agree with smurfy. How would we find out if it was fixed. I believe the winner has been decided from the start. simon cowell knows who he will want to win and work with.

Maybe, I wasn't watching it then.  Rachel shouldn't have been in the sing off last night, Daniel should have gone.  Rachel wasn't singing in the genre, which showcases her talent.  She will do better next week.

Leona Lewis now says she wants to follow in the footsteps of Anjelina Jolie and adopt some African kids. Don't these celebs ever fancy adopting a kid in this country?
Title: Re: X Factor
Post by: smurfboy on November 03, 2008, 02:02:50 pm
An African child is like an accessory to some celebrities - 'this season's must-have'. They don't want to adopt in this country because it's very hard to adopt a baby here; they don't want a child who's been in and out of care. That doesn't fit the A-List image, does it?

I like them too; although I find Diana's doe-eyed routine a bit too much. When she did 'Smile' a couple of weeks back they had her done up like one of those crying clown dolls you can buy from the Sunday supplements in 36 easy installments.

The great British public got it wrong again last night.  There's no way Ruth should have been in the sing off and was arguably the strongest on the night.  Daniel was a bit better but only a bit but should still go.  Rachel had a nightmare of a night but is still to my mind a fantastic vocalist, but needs to have a big song.  Laura peaked too early and was probably slightly unlucky last night but was on thin ice. Eioghan and the guys are going strong.  Alexandra I thought had a week performance but will be there in the shake-up.  I hope sweetie pie Diana gets better quick.
Title: Re: X Factor
Post by: smurfboy on November 09, 2008, 11:54:42 am
I thought Rachel picked completely the wrong song, but actually did really well with it. She'd have been better with something like 'Through the Rain'. 'Open Arms' was ideal for Daniel as it's originally a Journey song, and was written for a male vocal, but he still wasn't good enough. It happens every year; there's someone a couple of the judges don't like and they get the sympathy vote.
Title: Re: X Factor
Post by: oldspice on November 09, 2008, 03:19:26 pm
Eioghan is my absolute favourite. He has a wonderful voice, incredible confidence and presence for his age but absolutely no arrogance.

Ruth is fantastic too. I'm not bothered about the rest. I really liked JLS to start with but they've turned into every other boy band we've seen a dozen times before and I'm bored with all that.

I think the voting was fair. Daniel was the weakest and I totally cringed when he perved his way through that Tom Jones' song.

I am not keen on Rachel. Her voice is very good but her personal is a bit like Daniel's - "Poor little old me, what an 'ard time I've 'ad".

All of the other performers were great - although I wasn't keen on JLS again. What has Louie done to them??

I am glad Rachel's gone. She did have a good voice but didn't impress me on Saturday night and I am fed up with her sob stories.

Ruth and Alexandra are fantastic. Diana is sweet but I don't like her voice. It's a bit freaky. JLS have gone to seed, I'm sad to say. They were so promising to start with but Louis has turned them into a middle-of-the-raod boy band.

My money's on Eggnog. He's got the best voice and a brilliant attitude.

Title: Re: X Factor
Post by: oldspice on December 07, 2008, 07:00:46 pm
Sorry, but i think Eggnog is much better than Rachel in several respects. Firstly, he has such a good attitude and a positive presence. he is a much better role model to young people than rachel could ever be and he has a fantastic voice with a great range to draw on. Having said all that, I didn't like the songs he chose last night.

JLS were MUCH better last night and worthy of the final. Alexandra, as ever, was fantastic and Diana was very good too. She's very original, I think, but has not performed consistently weel over the weeks.
