Title: Health and safety commission sponsor National conkers tournament
Post by: bounty hunter on September 28, 2008, 02:33:11 pm
The body that oversees Health and Safety have sponsored this year's conkers championships in Northamptonshire.  Gerald Peabody of the H&S commission said, 'We don't want to appear to be spoil sports.  We get a lot of bad press for raining on people's parades and wanted to show that we could have fun too."

The link below proves this is not one of my daft made up stories.

More than 200 people are expected to compete in the World Stone Skimming Championships being held on the Scottish island of Easdale on Sunday.

The event is open to anyone, with heats in four categories: adults over 16, over 60s, girls and boys aged 10 to 15 and the under-10s.

Stones must be no more than 3in, formed of Easdale slate and bounce no less than three times within the boundary.

Skims are judged on the distance thrown rather than the number of bounces.

I taught my boys to do this on holiday in Spain this year.
Some of the locals started watching as though they had never seen it done before.
