I know that feeling OldSpice...  Some days life just seems like a drudge doesn't it? You spend all day at work waiting to get home, and then when you get there, the evening just disappears and it's time to start again!

Oh well, at least tomorrow is Friday...

Think we all have days like that. I was upset yesterday...it's my 21st in June and it turns out 2 of my closet friends are busy the night of my party. Don't know whether to be anger or just let it go.

Let it go - they are the ones who will be missing out and I'm sure you have loads more friends and family.

I suppose though if your party isn't until June and they already have something planned, it must be pretty important. I'm sure your friends wouldn't let you down deliberately.

I'm the other way and I would think something would have to be really important for two of my friends to miss my 21st. Make sure you take lots of pics and let them know what a really good night they missed.

One friend is going to a wedding that has been planned for 2 years, I know that if it wasn't for that she would have been there. She is annoyed that she is missing it. I don't feel too bad about that, though I do wish she was there. We have been mates since we were 5.

But the other said its the only time her and her boyfriend can get time off work together to go on holiday, not too happy about this one. I wouldn't plan a holiday over my friends 21st!

It will still be fun without them but better if they could have been there.

I've been reading about that 11 year old who has committed 16 street robberies in two months. There is a long article about him in today's Daily Telegraph. His mother blames the absent father and the social workers. His father, on being interviewed, said:

"I first got to know him when he was about seven"

For God's sake. Who are these people? The mother has five children by four fathers. Most of the fathers have no meaningful role in their children's lives - they just seem to be men who drifted through the mother's bedroom at various stages. The children are badly behaved and mostly living on the streets by choice and the mother bleets to the social services because she cannot cope. With her own children!

I'm even more bloody depressed now.

So blind that she can't even see how unfitting her own parenting skills are? Bollocks! And why keep doing it for christ's sake?

Some people didn't ought to be allowed to have children, until they can provide the means and faculties to raise them properly.

I have this idea, some call it sinister, but hear me out.

ALL persons are reversibly sterilised at birth and cannot procreate ( sure, shag as much as they like) until they have proven to be fit and capable of being a responsible parent. How is this done? A jury of peers, social services or some other body.

Yes, yes it's inflammatory, human rights, blah, blah. We do however need to find solutions to this ill.

I don't want to agree, but I kind of do agree. I am so sick of these pathetic women saying "I asked the social services to help but they wouldn't". If they cannot reason with their own children, how do they expect anyone else to ? It is not the job of social services to raise children whose parents have given up.

It is hard to be a parent, you have to make sacrifices and establish routines and boundaries so that the children get some structure. It's not all about throwing designer clothes and toys at them.

I don't know what the answer is. i give up.

To be honest I think parents don't receive enough assistance. At the end of the day parents are doing the most difficult job on the planet, and they are creating the future of the country. Therefore they should receive all the assistance they need.

All we seem to do at the moment is throw money at them to get back to work.

Title: P****d off
Post by: loulou on February 19, 2005, 10:56:26 am

Why do parents need assistance? Paulham, oldspice do you need assistance.I think not.

Did our parents need assistance. No. The problem is thick teenagers who have no sense and in a lot of cases can't read and write have  kids, then their kids grow up thick and have j=kids. That's how we have more and more people becoming grandparents by the age of 35.

In the library where I work I had a mother complain to me because her kids had given out their address on the internet (parents have to sign a consent form for their kids to use it, which she'd done).  I told her to have a word with them about internet security and she said I'd have to do it as they never listen to her, yet she'd quite happily signed the form so she could get rid of them!

I agree not everyone needs assistance at parenting. But it appears its the one job in the world where you get no training, other than 'instinct' Whilst I don't think assistance should be a compulsary thing I think if people ask for help they should receive it.

The more we invest in making the young people better, happier more self sufficient people the better a society we will end up having.

I agree with louLou, but then what do we do now?  The problem is that the government feels unable to intervene at this level.  Who can blame them?

The ability to procreate alone does not make parents, just mothers and fathers.

There must be something we can do.  Are there condom machines in every school toilet?  If not put them there now.  The answer lies there.  Take motherhood away from teenagers girls.   Let them shag all they like but don't let them get pregnant.

The trouble is that for a lot of teenaged girls, pregnancy is a way out and intentional, not an accident.  Lots get housed with various benefits (I'm no expert here) and if they can't see themselves ever getting a decent job etc, it's probably quite a tempting option.  Compulsory sterilisation does seem a bit harsh though Paulham!

I really don't see what sort of assistance parents cna be offered to help raise their chiildren. Parenting classes might help but often, these paretns are just so selfish, their children end up in trouble because the parents will do anything to get rid of them for a few hours peace. A lot of young parents do not realise how much time and effort is involved in raising children. They become resentful towards the children and a chain of negative behaviour starts up.

Read the article on page 25 of yesterday's Daily Telegraph (Friday).A mother and father, both out of work, left their nine-year old to get her brothers and sisters up for school, get them dressed and off to school because the parents were too idle to get out of bed. In addition, before school, the child had to take tea to the parents in bed and go out to buy her father The Sun newspaper. She was frequently late or absent from school because her parents needed her at home to help with the younger children.

What help could possibly be given to these parents??

Yes you can both have a corner piece. I don't know which type of cake it will be yet. I want to get a special one to mark the occassion. I am going to have a look in M&S, Harrods and Selfridges to see which ones they make. I would like a nice pink one!

Cake is a big weakness for me. I don't have it very often, so when I do I like to make the most of it and have a big fat slice. I always get told off by everyone else saying I will make them fat!

One of the ladies in my office got it for her daughther and it was gorgeous!
