Not only are they on strike today but also next Friday and the following Monday.
-
I don't think they're getting much sympathy. Why do they think they deserve so much more money? A friend of mine became a postman fairly recently and he says it's the cushiest job he's had in his life.
-
I heard one on the radio say his basic pay is 21,000 before overtime and bonuses etc. That's not much less than I earn and, without boasting or wishing to appear big-headed, I am quite highly qualified, I work long hours and I do a job as important as delivering the post. I don't get any overtime or bonuses though!
-
Well it's way over what I earn, I'm also quite highly qualified, have a lot of responsibility and live in a town with one of the highest costs of living in the country.
I may consider becoming a postman....
-
Why do they think they deserve more money when mail is often delivered on time, or lost altogether? Surely if you're doing a GOOD job, that's when you deserve extra!
-
I thought they were striking over work conditions not pay.
-
The bit I heard was definitely about pay - they want to receive the 'National average'.
-
"The Royal Mail's figures are as ridiculous as their pay offer," said general secretary Billy Hayes. "Our reports say that 95% of postal workers went on strike (on Friday), demonstrating overwhelming support for a decent pay rise and against cuts in services and jobs.
"The Royal Mail has been in denial about its workforce rejecting a 2.5% pay offer and is now in denial about the overwhelming support for the strike."
-
I would hate to deliver mail, trudging about in bad weather.
-
Bloody boring by the sound of it.
-
-
Now the postal depot is telling me they will not strike this Friday. I wish they would make their minds up.
-
there Not striking beacsue of the Money:
there on strike Because government want to shut down 87 Crown post offices and move them in to WH SMith
-
they get the best benefits and dont have to work during some of the days and their hours are limited- i dont think they should be complaining that much
-
I think they have every right to complain.
-
What about?
-
Put that key away Loulou.
-
Does anyone have any idea if this will delay the delivery of the new Harry Potter book? If so the man from our local garage will be really upset.
-
No it won't.
-
Thankyou goldencup.

It was just that he mentions it every time we go for petrol, we've been having the countdown for weeks now, and he gets more and more excited each week.

And of course the thought of a grown man breaking down in the middle of a petrol station, when all I've gone in for is a few pounds worth of unleaded holds no appeal at all.

I agree with them stirking for this reason!

Well I know that the library copies (all 100 of them) are arriving by special courier in a locked case to be opened at midnight. We're having a special HP party.

So do I.

Ooooh you lucky things. That means if you're fast readers you will be able to have finished the book before the library even opens in the morning!
You will be one of the very first people to have read the new Harry Potter goldencup!
I hope you have a really fantastic party. Are you dressing up and having things like Hogwarts sandwiches and owl shaped biscuits and Harry Potter punch to drink?
And if it is fancy dress who are you going as? My mum says I remind her of moaning Myrtle.

Oh I wish I knew someone who was having a Harry Potter party now!
I want to come!

Have a brilliant time.

-
I won't be one of the first people to read it as I haven't reserved a copy. I may buy one at some point as my sons have all of the others but I haven't even read the last two yet.
I don't think the staff will be wearing fancy dress (I hope not anyway) but the kids who've reserved the book are invited to do so.
I'm sure it will be a fun evening.

-
Go on GC , get dressed up.
-
Royal mail are striking today.
-
Royal mail are striking tomorrow so expect no mail in the morning.
-
No wonder they're losing business.
-
Write a letter of complaint.
