This bar seems to get more questions than any other, so I thought I'd draw attention to the info we have on it:
Secret was made by Rowntree (now part of Nestle). It had a chocolate mousse centre and a 'Shredded Wheat' style outer layer of drizzled chocolate. It was discontinued in around 1996 because it wasn't popular enough to justify the high cost of production.

Thanks Smurfy. Do you know, I'd forgotten all about this bar.
-
I remember it well, it was a bit crumbly and messy but very tasty. I think it was the same chocolate as Aero.
-
That sounds like the best Shredded Wheat EVER!
I wish they still made them.
What sort of mousse was it? In the advertisement it looked a lot like the stuff in Walnut Whips.
-
This is my all time fave chocolate bar, I so wish they'd bring it back, even if it's just for a limited time

Yes it was very much like that.
-
The factory doesn't exist anymore.
-
I just registered on this site to post a request for a choc bar which only I could remember and lo and behold - the very first post I read identified it!
Thankyou - I'm off to tell my friends that I'm not mad!

Shall we write to Nestle to ask!! It really was the most amazing chocolate bar! I will if you will?
-
The Secret Chocolate bar was made by Nestl? in the 80's and 90's and was one of the most delicious treats ever. It had a sort of bird's nest chocolate outer with a creamy mousse center similar to the inside of a Walnut Whip. They came in a white protective card sleeve and apparently had a gold wrapper with the word Secret written on it in purple.
The television advert featured an elegant lady sat on a train eating her Secret bar 'in secret' with the accompanying music "I see her face everywhere I go... Have you seen her?..."
Unfortunately the Secret Chocolate Bar was withdrawn from sale due to the high production costs and low volume of sales. GOD DAMMIT!
-
I joined for the same reason. I absolutely loved Secrets and none of my friends remember it
-
The trouble with them was that the elegant lady wouldn't have stayed looking elegant for long - they were incredibly messy to eat!
-
And fattening!
-
I forgot about that one. I've tried it in the past and really liked it. I'm suprised it didnt really hit off
-
It was a rather nice product.
If memory servers me correctly it was actually made in Edinburgh at the old Duncans factory (where they made Walnut Whip).
Rowntree discontinued it as it struggled to achieve the required sales due to the 'premium price' over a standard bar of chocolate. It was selling for about 35p when most bars sold for 25p.
-
i wish they still made secret bars!! no one i ask remembers them!! I remember buying them from woolies on a saturday! they were awesome!!! Write to nestle!!!!

PS
BRING BACK SECRETS.................
NOW

or else?
-
He'll let the secret out.
-
Sadly I doubt it'll happen. As far as I'm aware it was costly to manufacture so a limited run doesn't sound practical.
-
Secret should neve come back before the Cabana.
-
Mars should stop messing about with planets and do a Bounty caramel with cherries.

I agree
