British TV standards are deteriorating because the BBC is "run by women", astronomer Sir Patrick Moore has said.
The Sky at Night host also described female newsreaders as "jokey" and called for separate channels to cater for the needs of the different sexes.
Patrick Moore is an old fart (although a rather sweet old fart). When men ran the BBC we had dramas that showed wife-beating as normal and accetable (Z cars) and comedies endemic with sexism and racism (On The Buses, Love Thy Neighbour, Mind Your Language and countless other examples).
I agree with him in some ways, TV is more trivial and obsessed with cebebrity but it's little to do with who runs it and more to do with who watches it.
come on, own up... who watches 'Most Haunted' on living?
Not me. I'm too frightened I won't be able to sleep.
Patrick Moore is unfortunately from a bygone era.
come on, own up... who watches 'Most Haunted' on living?
Is this a trick question?
OK, I own up. I watch Most Haunted, and have just spent three very happy nights watching Most Haunted Live.
I love it when Yvette says "If theres anyone there hit someone or throw something at someone. Not me but anyone else would do."
And it's nearly always her poor hubby who cops for it. Poor Carl.

I love it.
