Hi guys n gals
I've been a busy boy so haven;t had much time to drop in and say hello to you guys for a while but I need to be a cheeky chappy and ask for your help for my next project which is right up your street. And is that the longest sentence in the world????
So Goldencup x, Lou Lou, Oldspice et all I will be making my very own Escape to the 70s Jamboree Bag and would like your help in deciding what sweets to fill said bag with. There are so many sweets available out there but which would really suit a Classic 70s Jamboree Bag.
-
A wagon wheel maybe?
Mojos?
-
Mojo's hmm have to look them up,
I have fruit salads, black jacks and my fave sweet peanuts pencilled in...
-
Lash an apple in it.
-
lol or maybe drop an orange in there for a real treat

Seriously tho guys, what were your favourite boiled sweets from the 70s?
-
Old English Spangles! Lovells Chocolate Nougat! Those yoghurt flavoured sweets - what were they called?
-
And..........Opal Mints!
-
Toffos (all different flavours but especially the chocolate ones), milk gums in a roll, Chuckles (nobody else remembers those). Nice to see you again Glamrocker!
-
Definitely Spangles. Don't think you can still get them though.
Can you still get those candy 'cigarettes' which came in a sort of matchbox?
-
i dont think you can now, they were banned so as not to encourage kids to smoke....
-
How about some drumstick lollies and a sherbet dib dab?
-
-
Chuckles (nobody else remembers those).
Chuckles..now did they come in a longer than normal tube type packet..were they..how do i put it..about the width of lets say a pamela violet and about as thick as 2 pamela violets..and were they very sticky ? i think the packet was purple maybe..

-
Yay! That was them! I knew I wasn't imagining it. For some reason everyone used to take them on school trips and they were indeed very sticky so not entirely suitable!
-
i remember we would put them in water and try and make fruit drinks..
totally yuck now that i think about it...

..

-
Did they have sweets in the 70's I thought you just chewed on a bit of sugar cane back in those olden days.
-
lol cheeky monkey Scarlet,
Good call Lou Lou with the dib dabs and Lollies
*adds them to his list*
-
candy neclaces always seemed to be in the ones i got along with a cigarette sized white chew that tasted of peardrops and was wrapped in white paper

I had a sherbet dib dab, a sherbet fountain and a drumstick lolly today. There's an old fashioned sweet shop next to where I work.
-
I used to love those bags of lemonade sherbert with a red lolly in. The sherbert was lemony and really sharp but lovely combined with the sweetness of the lolly.
Didn't Jamboree Bags nearly always have a very soft and runny toffee in and a cheap game with the instructions written in a foreign language nobody could identify?

Lemonade Dippers

not sure about the toy, they used to have some kind of cheap item in there. Found the dib dabs and the drumstick lollies plus flying saucers.
Anyone remember chewy nuts?
-
Are they small chocolate covered toffees?
-
I thought they were chewing nuts.
-
Didn't like them. Too hard. What about some good old fashioned spearmint chews? Mo Jo Spearmints were good. Can you still get them?
