Have you had your first one yet? Do you like them? I think they look nice in an old-fashioned way.

i don't like 'em. however, i said that about them the last time they changed. i guess i'm just stuck in my own ways a little too much. once again, i spose they'll grow on me.

They are actually more purple now.

I too thought it was a Scottish note when I first saw one, but not because of Adam Smith - it's purely because they look so different. On a related topic, who would you like to see on a bank note next? Is it time for a Churchill one?

I had one of the new ones in my hand last week, but not long enough to see what it looked like properly.LOL

I think they are different, I know that sounds like an obvious thing to say, because that's what makes them new, but I can't think of another way to describe it. Like wjp666 I suppose they will grow on me and a few years in the future I will be missing them and finding the next new ones different too. I like the familiar, I'm comfortable with it, it makes me feel safe.

I think the changes have something to do with counterfeiting or something don't they? I mean the Bank of England and the UK mint wouldn't go to all this expense and trouble just for a laugh would they? Or would they???

Or maybe it's just sheer boredom?

when i was doing pub work, we had an AMAZING counterfeit 20 passed onto us. it had all the right markings, including the watermark - and didn't show up under the ultra-violet light/pens. the only obvious thing it failed on was the metal strip. (it looked like it had one until you tried extracting it.)

apparentkly the new ones are near to impossible to fake... we'll see...

I thought it was to get all the money back into circulation again. All those people with thousands in shoe boxes under the bed will have to get it in the bank to get it changed over.

Always feel for the raised print, that's what we were taught when I worked in a bank! The words "Bank of England" should feel raised up and people making fakes don't seem to be able to do that.
