Tell me what song makes you happy
I make happy playlists / compilations for listening to in the car, but after 3 compilations I am running out of ideas for the next one. So give me your suggestions please!
-
How about 'Shiny Happy People' by REM?
-
Proclamiers i would walk 500 miles
-
not sure happy is the right word, but a song that mkaes me feel absolutely great and inspired is 'brave new world', from jeff wayne's 'the war of the worlds'.
-
oh, and 'birdhouse in your soul', by 'they might be giants'.
-
Thanks for the responses so far

Shiny Happy People and Birhouse in your Soul are already on compilation number 1 but good to know we are thinking on the same lines!
The Proclaimers will definitely be going on the next compilation.
As for Jeff Wayne I don't know it but I will definitely look out for it. It's not going to make me cry is it? Songs that make me inspired sometimes make me cry and that's no good if I am driving
-
the jeff wayne track wont make you cry - it's just an inspiring song (though many would disagree with me.) you'd probably have to listen to the whole 'war of the worlds' double album to get the right reaction anyway.
-
Sounds great, I'll look out for it
-
seriously - i would advise anyone who has never listened to 'war of the worlds' all the way through to do it NOW!!!! best thing you'll ever hear.

Have you seen the live show wjp?
-
Songs that make me really happy and I love to sing along to are Parklife by Blur, Day Dream Believer by The Monkees and Lets Face The Music (And Dance) by Nat King Cole.
If I want something smoother I would go for Something (The Beatles), Lay Lady Lay (Bob Dylan), God Only Knows (The Beach Boys) or Michael Row The Boat Ashore (The Highwaymen - it makes me go all goosey).
Sorry they're all old!

i've got the dvd of last years live show (the one with russell watson and all that) and it was great stuff. apparently it's on tour again this year so i'll have to check to see if it's coming to the BIC again. love to see it live.
-
'LDN' by Lily Allen
'Let It Swing' - Bobbysox
'That's What Friends Are For' - Dionne Warwick and Friends
'Dancing Queen' - ABBA
'No No Never' - Texas Lightning
'She Bangs the Drums' - The Stone Roses
'Step Inside Love' - Cilla Black
-
don't forget 'wake up boo', by the Boo Radleys. easily the gayest song ever. wjp6662007-03-08 19:33:22

just found out it's at the BIC in december. bit of a way to wait!
-
It seemed too obvious. It's been used on so many ads that are supposed to be happy and bouncy.
By the way, 'Your Disco Needs You' by Kylie Minogue is the gayest song ever - and would be great for your compilation Cherry!

It is a long time but I think I might book! I heard it was brilliant last time.

So do you think there's something my boyfriend of 13 years who owns all the Kylie CDs and DVDs is not telling me?
I don't know that particular song but if it's on one of her CDs we'll have it somewhere.

Great suggestions Oldspice
although that Nat King Cole track is used in a very annoying advert ... "we are the ones who should have been careful" aargh ...
Definitely going to dig out my Monkees CD this weekend though

It's on 'Light Years'. In fact, most of that album would be great for your compilation.

I love REM's Shiny Happy People and The Monkees. I think my favourite of theirs is Take A Giant Step.
Other favourites are:-
Knock On Wood by Amii Stewart.
Video Killed The Radio Star by The Buggles.
Rock The Casbah by The Clash.
Unbelievable by EMF.
Stacey's Mom by Fountains Of Wayne.
Molly Smiles by Jesse Spencer.
Wimmin by Ashley Hamilton.
And mostly anything by ABBA.

Any of these songs give me a silly, happy feeling and some of them even have me laughing out loud, dancing, and singing along at the top of my voice.
Much to the embarassment of my kids.

Probably not a good idea to listen to them if I was driving though.

-
Can u dig it by the mock turles always gets my vote
Worlds greatest by R Kelly ... I know it's a bit smolsie (is that a real word? if not I hope you know what I mean!

) but it always lifts me up.
Happy people by R Kelly again
The only way is up by Jazz
Somebody else's guy By Jocelyn Brown (love it!)
For a mellow mood anything by Jim Croce
Oh there areso many songs I love .... I need to give it a bit more thought!

-
OMG someone else has heard of Jim Croce! Time in a Bottle is one of my very favourite songs and I love all the songs on an album an old boyfriend gave me many, many years ago.
-
Starseed - Our Lady Peace
Liar - Queen
A Night Like This - Tomi Swick
Laid - James
Jump In Line - Harry Belafonte
oh i think my list can go on and on...

I'm a Jim Croce fan too Oldspice! (At least I was). I think I still have a couple of old vinyl albums somewhere.
-
I love Time In A Bottle although I must admit that's the only song of his that I've heard. At least I think it is.
I like Our Lady Peace too, especially the song they did for the movie The Craft. I think it was called something like Tomorrow Never Knows.
-
Jim Croce wrote and recorded a number of beautiful songs before his early death in a plane crash when he was still in his 20s.
His best known songs include Time in a Bottle, I had to Say I Love You in a Song, Photographs and Memories, Big, Bad LeRoy Brown and I Got A Name.
-
happy songs I know:
captain sensible: happy talka:
buck fizz: land of make belive
tilly mallet: yellow dot backen
kinky boots:
-
I've always liked 'Time in a Bottle' - it was played when Kate died in Heartbeat (in the days when that was a good show) - but I never knew who the artist was.

Thanks for those and the info.

I have heard of Big, Bad Leroy Brown and I will see if I can find any of them on my music download site.
-
then there that Very camp kissing song from 1983:
and the song about Do you like peedacarladers
and getting soke in the rain
-
I am so glad there is a rich vein of Jim Croce appreciaters on this web site!
I have a number of his CD. He had a beautiful voice and expressed beautiful emoitions in his songs. His pemature death was, without doubt, a real tradgedy. Most of his success was postumous ... who knows what he could have become given the opporunity.
-
In light of what happened to him, the saddest line in one of his songs must be:
Photographs and memories
The picture card you sent to me
All that I have are these to remember you
But we sure had a good time when we started way back when
Morning walks and bedroom talks
Oh how I loved you then
-
oh, and don't forget 'build me up buttercup', by the Foundations. (one of my karaoke faves.) wjp6662007-03-13 22:19:28
