I know this isn't strictly chocolate but the one I'm thinking of did have a chocolate coating! Does anyone (Oldspice?) remember Lord Toffinghams?
-
I do. I remember having onewhen I was about 18. Went out same time as Funny Feet
-
I remember jolly jelly ice lollies.
-
I remember Fuuny Feet
-
Yes, Jolly jellies and Lord Toffinghams were two of my favourites. The Toffinghams were coated in chocolate, had a toffee flavoured ice-cream base and a chewy toffee centre.
Jolly Jellies were a trio of water ice and cream ice with a jelly centre. The 1970s were a dream for pocket money priced lollies - black dracular lollies, purple magic lollies, yoghurt flavoured lollies and all sorts.
My favourites were Mint Hits and Pineapple Mivis.
-
Oldspice your memory is incredible! I'd forgotten about the black Count Draculas - they used to turn your tongue black! Didn't they have red jelly in the middle too? I was particularly fond of Lord Toffinghams though because they were like a combination of Caramac and Golden Cup - two of my favourites.
-
I vaguely recall these products you mention. My abiding memeory of old ice creams is 'Push ups'?
Little cardboard cylinders of vanilla and raspberry sauce ice cream with a little plastic stick to push the base upwards as you ate it.
Lovely.
-
LONG LIVE CHOCOLATE
-
Hooray to that!
-
The new carte d'or ice cream is 2 for £3 in Asda at the moment
-
I like the cherry one.
-
Does anyone remember, late 70s / early 80s, an ice cream not unlike a minimilk but the top couple of inches were dipped in chocolate? I think maybe there were hundreds and thousands on top too. I was so sad when those went out of production
Also remember the chocolate mousse in a pot with about 5 spots of cream piped on the top, called a Lovely? They were great but the worst part was that they came frozen and you had to wait hours for them to thaw out
-
In a timewarp style newsagents near where I work they have an ancient ice cream poster over the freezer, featuring many old classics. One I would particularly love to see back is the Sky - an ice cream bar with Aero style chocolate in the middle!
Also does anyone remember Rol? A choc ice with white vanilla ice cream and a swirl of chocolate and toffee ice creams in the middle. They were still available on the continent at one time, but it's a long time since I saw one...
-
SKY!
I remember those - they were lovely.
I still love the 'Magnum; Sins' edition of last year, especially the 'Gluttony' flavour...
-
Mmm Magnums are lovely. The white choc/vanilla one is best for me!
-
Zaps and orible ogres where the best
-
I am too old to remember those!
-
I dont think you can be to old to remember something.. Perhaps to young to remeber something since it may not have happend in your life time. Unless your old enough to be going a bit senile?
I think orible ogres where around in the early 90's but zaps were around from the 70's i think.
-
Anybody remember a kinda tie-dye coloured toffee flavoured ice lolly called 'Pizazz' (sp?) in the late eighties? They were gorgeous
-
thats the same thing as the zap
i believe they changed the name at some point.
-
you can still get the dracula lolly in spain!? aswell as the big ice cream feet!

Why are they so missrable to us here!? getting rid of the only things we like.
-

Whatever happened to Gino Ginelli Mint Choc Chip????
-
Come to think of it, whatever happened to Gino Ginelli full stop?
-
I remember years and years ago one of the companies doing cones with a range of flavours including a lovely chocolate one and a wonderful orange sherbert. I used to have a twin cone with chocolate one side and orange the other. I think the range was called Napoli and the shop keeper used to scoop it out of tubs from a fridge like Thorntons do.
I could never manage a double cone these days even though i'm much plumper.
By the way - Thorntons do some lovely flavours - especially Toffee Crunch.
-
Ooh yes, that's luvverly. They do a fruity one too, the name of which escapes me, that is bosting as well.
-
You're right Oldspice - it was Napoli. I remember the Tutti Frutti one (it was horrible with chunks of candied peel in it) but others were gorgeous.
-
Thanks GC, it's nice to share memories - even if they are old enough to make it into the Schools' History Curriculum!

does anyone remember getting ice-cream inside a plastic ball..(just a bit bigger in size than a tennisball)..
part of the ball unscrewed to reveal vanilla ice-cream..when you were finished eating.. you'd screw the lid back on and hey presto !!! you had a ball to kick around..
these were around in the 60's not sure if they were still around in the 70's..early 70's maybe..
-
Yes! The Tonibell ice cream man used to sell them! Wow, I'd forgotton all about those!
Did anyone love oysters? They were cone-like shells with marshamllow inside and the ice cream man would fill them with a small brick or a squirt of whippy ice cream. Of course, you had to have raspberry sauce as well! Mmmmmmmmmmmmm
-
I hated oysters. I hate that waffery cone stuff and the tastless chocolate part
the mallowfluff was crazy sweet. You can sill get oysters cant you?
-
I like oysters and they are still available.
-
Old people tend to eat them a lot.
-
Laughed at Kev's post and spluttered my drink on the computer screen ... sorry
-

-
Old people tend to eat them a lot.
really?
-
Yes.
-
Has this been surveyed?
-
I doubt it's gone that far.
-
Are we talking ice cream oysters? Old people eat them? Boy, I bet they make a right mess.
-
Anyone tried Marshfield Farm Peppermint Choc Chip - its delicious!!
-
I haven't. Where can you buy it?
-
I buy Langage Farm ice cream, haven't heard of Marshfield Farm though. Don't think it's near me.
-
I've seen some from some farm or other in Morrisons.
-
I used to love Loseley Farm ice cream and yogurts but I haven't seen it for ages.
-
Oh yes, they did and lovely honey and ginger one GC.
-
Yes! That was my favourite!
-
Yum!
-
I'd forgotten all about it until Farm was mentioned on here! I used to live quite near Loseley Farm. I wonder what happened to it?
-
Not sure. I haven't seen any around for ages. I used to buy it in Waitrose.
-
Just did a quick Google and it seems they still make the yogurt, which is sold in Holland & Barrett.
-
I'll look out for it. By the way, M&S do lovely loganberry yoghurts AND I got some loganberry jam in Tescos. All I want now is a tin of loganberries!
-
Sorry been away - you can buy it in Asda and Morrisons I think, based in Somerset x
-

-

-

-
What's with the winking?
-
Nudge nudge, wink, wink, know what I mean?
-
Say no more!
-
Exactly - wink wink
-

-
I get suspicious when I see winking going on. I'm still heavily scarred from when Phyllis used to post.
-
-
Do you realise you've put Kevvosa back at least six months now Lou? He was well on the road to recovery.
-
I should be ok as long as chocolate liquer isn't mentioned.
-
Nooooooooooo! Back to the therapy again.
-
-
Does anyone remember the Lolly Gobble Choc Bomb? Or am I just making it up?
-
was it pink and white with hundreds and thousands on the top half and a bar of nasty cheap choc inside??? lol if so yes
-
yep that's the one alright, just had a great name can't remember liking the lolly itself too much. Can remember my mate asking me to get one for him, thought he was having me on!!
-
Yes, I remember these and the name!
-
Ok heres some more .....
Pistachio flavour ice cream ..... why dont we see much of that about? Its my fav flavour .... I think it must be the "marmite" of icecream, if u get what I mean!
Also does anyone remember those lollies a bit like feasts but you could get flavours like "toffee crunch", "mint crisp", "turkish delight", "double choc" I cant for the life of me think what they were called but they were very nice, again as always, taken off the shelves overnight! .... favourite centres springs to mind for some reason!!
sparkle lollies lemonade flavoured, think u could get orange flavour too
magnifico ... was like a massive cornetto
I remember also there was a spinoff of the funny feet ... think it was called a "freaky foot" and the big toe was covered in chocolate.
There was the "tongue twister" .... a spin off from that was the "tangle twister" which is still around today known simply as the "twister" (wow u got my grey matter working today!!) ...
Is the callipo still around or is that what solero replaced?
hmmm ..... square ice cream cones (why???)
also I remember as a kid, I could go to my local icecream man and ask for what was known in my area as a "special" which was an icecream cone with a cylindrical shaped lolly stuck in it ... anyone else remember those??
and one more I remember .... those "Gi-nomous" Ice pops u could buy for 15p ... the standard sized ones were 10p but the bigger ones were longer and fatter!!
p.s. this forum is great, keep it up!!!
Best
Wayne

I used to love those. You might be right about Favourite Centres.
Welcome to the fourm by the way!
-
Many thanks smurfy!
pleased to meet u!
-
You could get a cider flavour Sparkle lolly as well as lemonade.
-
Really????? I missed the boat on that one!!
hehe
-
I used to love those Favourite Centres ones too, especially the Mint Crunch and Turkish Delight ones.
Those ice cream lolly combinations you used to call a special was called a witches' hat where I lived (north east London). It was a cone of ice cream, with a triangle, raspberry flavoured ice lolly stuck in the top. It was sold by the Rossi's ice cream man.
-
A few more 'oldskool' lollies then...
70s I think..
Top Secret - with the hidden message formed in two parts of a stencil on the 'stick (one part at each end so you had to eat the lolly first then use the stencil)? Can't remember what they tasted like!
Haunted House - like a vanilla Mini Milk but standard 'lolly-shaped' with a suitably scary drawing in blue or green ink (edible I imagine).
Bit more recent (early 80s)...
Jelly Jumbo - just great and only 15p. Sort of red ice cream with a top dipped in pretend chocolate (I imagine) and a red jelly centre.
Banana Man - very banana and toffee flavoured. Middle was gooey, and goody!
-
I remember a lovely ice lolly called something like Biscuit Feast. I think there was a mint one too.
-
Am I imagining it or was there a lolly in the 60s/70s called "Kinky"?!
-
Am I imagining it or was there a lolly in the 60s/70s called "Kinky"?!
No, I'm pretty sure you're right!

-
Anybody remember Super Sticky Swishos? They were brown toffee flavour lollies, with a ghost on the wrapper, around in the 70's.
-
I recognise the description but not the name.
-
Whatever happened to Gino Ginelli Mint Choc Chip????
-
Does anyone remember an ice lolly i think it was called mickey mouse. It was lemonade flovour all on the outside and a cola flavoured middle in the shape of mickey mouse. They were well nice. I think that was like 1997 The last time I saw them
-
-

We used to call the ice cream with a lolly stuck in the top a 'witches' hat'.

I found these again on holiday.
They are made by Unilever Italy.
A dark choc magnum with dark choc wispa running through it.
VERY VERY nice!
-
Wow, just like an old SKY bar! Yum.
-
I don't remember the bar but from what I have heard it does seem to be very similar. Was it milk chocolate?
-
Yes, it was. So not strictly 'just like', but similar enough for me to want one of these Magnums.
-
No, I wasn't trying to pick up on that, it is just that I really cannot recall ever having seen the ice cream and wondered if it was just the same bar that had moved to Europe with a new name.
It does make me think a dark chocolate aero would be fabulous (using Nestle's European blend). I just cannot take to Bournvile no matter how hard I try. A Dark Wispa would be excellent however and a Dark Wispa Gold has just caused me to go and get a tissue.
-
:D
-
a dark wispa gold made you cry or sneeze pham?
-
It's called white wee wee by some, Lou.
There! I've said it and I'm not proud of it.
-
white wee wee? snow?
-
UH-UH
-
I think it's known professionally as 'shooting one's wad'. :o
-
"Wad" is out of intensive care now. They said he had to stop trying that old Indian rope trick. The doctor said she had never seen such bad rope burns over such a small area. I told her to f*** off!
-
*My* favourite ice lollies were Spangles; they came in either orange (in, of course, *orange* wrapping) or blackcurrant (in purple wrapping) [and were made by Mars] and were made in 1995, the year Spangles sweets were briefly brought back in either flavour. I wish they *weren't* discontinued :(.
-
Why, do you want to be addicted to sugar?
