Title: SPROUTS.......
Post by: loulou on January 02, 2005, 05:53:00 pm

Who likes sprouts?

I only have them at xmas and will only eat 2 or 3.

The baby ones are ok but the bigger ones are too strong in taste.

Who eats them on a regular basis?

Me too. I love cabbage. My nephew smothers cabbage in vinegar but I like a little pepper on mine. I think it's called savoy cabbage the one I like, it's very dark green and crinkly...very good for you.

I love red cabbage but no other kind - oh, except in coleslaw.  I hate sprouts but always feel obliged to eat a couple at Christmas for some reason.

I think we've had this one before.  There is a gene that determines whether you like sprouts or not.  Incidentally, I love em.  In Nottingham they are known as knobby greens.

I like sprouts but they have to be cooked very carefully...I hate them crunchy and I hate them when they go pale green and are squishy...somewhere in between is just about right..

Sprouts have such an unfortunate effect on my digestion.

I hate sprouts. My parents rave about them and how much they look forward to Christmas so they can have them (yet it never occurs to them to buy them at any other time of year!), but even as a committed veggie, I just can't be doing with them.

Carrots are nice. Peas are horrible.

It depends on the peas.  I had some last night and they were those olive couloured ones.  They were nice.

Does anyone remember when Iceland came up with chocolate flavoured carrots to try and get kids to eat more of them? Died a death I think...

I hate peas too lou. However, some restaurant chains have no imagination and serve peas with everything. The worst thing imagineable is mushy peas. YUK.

Ah mushy peas are OK with mint sauce.  They are lovely with pie and mash.  I am told Camberwell is the place.  My mate's dad who came from Milwall, said that they did the best pie, mash and liquor in the world.

Does anybody know what liquor is in this context?

Gravy?

Not gravy, it's actually very runny parsley sauce and it's absolutely foul.

Only chavs eat mash and liquour. David Beckham says it the thing he misses most about 'Lahndan' - says it all, doesn't it?

Not sure thats very true. When you grow up in London its served regular. My mum and dad love it and they are far from chavs. Its a bit of an east end tradition, pie, mash and liquer.

Pie and mash is great with a good thick gravy and dark green cabbage.

Pie and chips is good from a shop in Lewisham called 'Something Fishy'
