On Sunday as I came back from my mams I was behind some very expensive looking caravans that were all turning into a field. Today in the newspaper I see this:
A double shooting at an illegal camp site left two travellers in hospital today.Violence flared at the site in East Howdon, near Wallsend, in North Tyneside, shortly after 1am.A man made a 999 call and told police a fight had broken out. Officers arrived to find two men injured with suspected shotgun wounds.A firearms operation was launched as the injured were taken to hospital.

This was probably an internal dispute.
I have a traveller in one of my teacher training classes. She travels round camps teaching them to read and write. She also visits schools to teach children about the travelling community. She is an inspiration to me. i have learnt so much about her culture and it has helped me understand them more. Yes, some of them are bad neighbours (many of these are not true Romanies) but most are hard-working, law-abiding folk whose families have been in the area they live for hundreds of years.

Unfortunately those seem to be the type we get around here during the summer and yes, they leave an incredible amount of mess that the Council has to clear up. But I do accept the true Romanies are different.

Recently a woman knocked at my gran's door selling 'genuine Irish linen' products. My gran paid £20 for one tablecloth. Watching the woman leave, she did not knock at any other door in the street.
I asked my gran why she paid so much for the tablecloth, which isn't even good quality; I doubt it's even linen. She said her mother always taught her not to upset a gypsy or she would face a curse.

It does sound scary. Was there any more on the story? I mean, did a member of the public finally got pissed off with their disregard for the environment, people who live nearby, the law etc. etc. or was it a landowner protecting his land. Remember seeing a report on the telly a few weeks ago about a site left by travellers and the devastation they caused. Local council (and tax payers) had a £100,000 headache with that one! What's your views loulou?
Travellers weaving their way across Tyneside have already totted up at least £16,000 in clean-up and legal bills.The bill was revealed after a drunken argument between travellers at an illegal camp site led to two brothers being shot.It happened on a field in East Howdon, near the entrance to the Tyne Tunnel yesterday morning.Patrick, 28, and Martin Doherty, 23, suffered leg and stomach wounds. Their condition was described as serious but not life-threatening.Three men have been arrested in connection with the shooting. A spokesman for the travellers' camp said: "It was just a family feud. It wasn't drug-related or anything. Some lads went to the pub and had a bit too much to drink. They had a row and one of them pulled out a gun and started shooting. They are OK. Their lives are not in danger."
I say shoot them all for the mess they have made and why do they insist on stealing milk from the local shops.
