I have a new great nephew. Arrived yesterday which was great timing as it's my nieces birthday today. Anyway not stuck on the babies name...Leon.
So my question is which names has anyone you know given their baby lately and you have liked/disliked it.
I like grace very much. I think it's very important children have a name that can grow with them without sounding silly. The worst names I've known my friends/associates give to their children are:
Basil (my daughter's teacher called her son this), Gabriel (a colleague called her son Gabriel which I think sounds very girly, Oscar - a colleagues grandson is called Oscar!
Baby names are all very well but they have to sound right for adults too, for when they get older.
Wellmy girls are called Jessie-Rose and Kaitlyn (middle name Kiera)
My brother's girlfriend is expecting and they are calling there baby Lewis which in my opinion is horrible and my friend has just had a baby and called him Owen which is not to my taste but is not as bad as Lewis.
Silly bastards.
If I was going to have children (which I'm not) I would call them Kieran and Shauna.
The woman in my post office has a grand daughter called Imogen. That's quite nice.
Imogen Stubbs. Got naked in 'The Rainbow'. Fine totty. That was a few years ago though.
I would like to see the return of Kim for girls. It used to be very popular and I think it's quite pretty.
My colleagues and I always quake when we see a Charlene or a Chantelle on a class register because for some reason they always spell trouble!!
Oldspice, a friend of mine that I think I've mentioned before has three girls called Chantelle, Charlene and Charmaine. They live in Bromley....
I have heard teachers say the same thing about Adam for boys.
Jessie was originally going to be named destiny but i had to think about her school years and it would have been cruel to name her destiny, sher would of suffered years of torment.
When she came out i knew straight away she was a jessie!! A nice old fashioned name.

You mentioned Bromley... any particular relevance?
There seems to be a fashion for naming boys with what are traditionally surnames, like Mitchell, Fletcher, Taylor etc.
Mothers' maiden names, perhaps?
Not in this case - they all have the same mother. Although....
I have 2 Ehtans in the family and I don't really like it.
I told my 2 year old and he said " Well! f**k her, then"
I don't think he meant it in a sexual sense as he is too young for that.
To be fair, he is Ethan, so he might be just being sensitive.
Well atleast you haven't got a Leilani in the family like I have.
Is that cockney rhyming?
Yes and if you were going to name her after one of Captain Scarlet's Angels, Harmony would have been better.
yeah i would never have forgiven myself if she had gone through years of torment.
I like some unusual names but i would never call my child them as it's not fair.
Leilani sounds like a DrWho assistant not a page three girl.
The page 3 Leilani used to live about half a mile from me. Wasn't she in Miss World or something?
Babygirl - I think you were right not to call your daughter Destiny. You've got to think of her future.
Am I the only one found the joke here?
Am I the only one found the joke here?
No I saw it too but was afraid to laugh
I called my boys fairly traditional names the eldest is Oliver, known as Ollie, and the youngest is Max.
Neither Seemed to be wildly over popular or unsual at the time, however both do seem to be quite common now. Porr Ollie had 3 Olivers in his class at one time in primary school.
It was quite hard to choose their names as our surname is Swedish, but actually sounds very Jewish.... I was sorely tempted to name at least one ot them Heimy
Can you imagine a person getting to the age of 80 with a name like Kylie or Chelsea? It's just silly.
True but a while ago I couldn't imagine babies called Freddie, Alfie or Lily and now they're all over the place!
I like the names Angelina, Rebecca, Amanda, Hazel, Lorna and Leah. They among others appear in my naughty stories.
Rebecca and Amanda are very middle class sixth former names
I couldn't write a story about a girl called Kylie.
There is a word abundant. This would have avoided the problem of having to clarify what you meant by common.
6/10
see me
one wonders if it is legal to names ones son God...
It's legal to name a child Jesus.
No. You cannot give your child a name, which is likely to cause a breach of the peace.

Blimey.... can't believe I have a 'naughty' name!
